Where to buy a punch bag on a stand

Would anyone be able to recommend somewhere to buy a punch bag on a stand or frame? I am looking for a suitable punch bag for an adult not a child and for someone who works out regularly, so a serious piece of fitness equipment rather than a bit of fun. Any advice would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Maybe one from the this link would be good to use for punching and releasing aggression.

Edit: I think the ones on a stand are for kids, because of their lack of power - stronger punches would probably knock it over. Just a quick look at Ochsner Sport and Athleticum seems to suggest a big bag or punch ball, hanging from a ceiling hook or wall mounted.

Re: Where to buy a punch bag on a stand

Can't you just practice on the neighbours?

I've come to think that free-standing punchbags aren't very good, it's better if they hang from the ceiling especially if you don't have someone to hold it. Free standing ones are kinda kids play things I think unless something has changed. Are you thinking combat sports training or just fitness? Or said another way, how hard do you expect to hit it and how heavy are you expecting it to be? No offense meant, serious consideration. Good luck.

Try a Makiwara instead of a bag?

Actually I quite like my neighbours ... although I could think of some others I could practice on!

I don't intend to hit it at all - its for my 16 year old son who is into fitness and also muscle building with the general aim of making himself irresistable to the opposite sex, I assume. My son weighs around 80 kilos and is quite a big lad. I would think he packs a reasonable punch and therefore the bag would need to be pretty heavy. It may be that you are right and the only option is a hanging from the ceiling bag. Thanks, though, for giving it some thought - I appreciate it.

Never having heard of a Makiwara, I have looked it up and it might be a good idea. As my son is not into martial arts, do you think a makiwara could be hit with a boxing glove? Thanks for the idea.

From what you are saying, a free-standing punch bag is not man enough for him, he'd break it and/or your home even if he has no clue how to punch properly. Unless he's gentle with it, in which case what'd be the point(?)

Re: Where to buy a punch bag on a stand

I would have a look in Athleticum. They definitely have punching bags, not sure if they have punchballs (on a stand).

If you have the facility to install a punching bag, I would definitely opt for that over the stand. For someone who is 80 kg, it makes sense to get one of the bigger, heavier bags. It will cost a little more, but it's almost christmas!

Definitely a great gift.

Thank you all very much - it seems it will have to be a hanging bag or nothing.

From the rest of your description, and the other posts, it sounds like a punching bag would be more fun for him.
I had not realised that it would be a Christmas gift, sorry!
