Evening all!

Am one of the swaggering Mancunians landing in Zurich soon (I actually have a very non descript walk and am not in the lese bit mad-for-it) and was wondering what the live music scene is like out there. I fear Manchester's vibrant music culture is something I wil miss nearly as much as Sven and his mighty blue army.......and my mum

There is a brilliant gig guide, and you will find that there are a few people (Such as NicM, Ric, Konijn)who really have their fingers on the pulse.

You will find that lots of bands that you expect to play big places in the UK play small clubs here which is really great.

My girlfriend's off to see the Trinity Church Gospel Choir tomorrow night. Doubt you're over here that soon - but if you are she needs someone to go with !!!!

Concerts in Zurich are brilliant.

We've seen some really famous bands in some tiny clubs. We saw one band in a club that was only about twice the size of our sitting room. It's fantastic.

Though I was totally spoiled with live music in Austin (small clubs, cheap, get close up and personal with the bands), I enjoyed a great Skatalites show at Moods in Zurich.

There are quite a few rock bands which I've seen in Zürich, if that's your scene. You just need to know your venues, there are good ones like the Volkshaus, Rohstofflager and ones like the Abart Music Club which are just plain unpleasant. Most of the usual city guides and the Züri-Tipp in the Tages Anzeiger list forthcoming events. For the stuff I listen to I usually need to trek out to the Z7 in Pratteln (that's just east of Basel).
