Wow. Your smile is dazzling. How long have you been single for? What's the rest ofyour romancing story? I'm not sure there's anything lecture-worthy, but I'll prepare for combat, just in case.
the short.... moved here a year ago.. wife and i split five months ago (was inevitable as we both realized, but we are friends which is nice). my problem is simple... because i do not speak german/swiss german, understand 10% french... i am a bit too shy to go out

the rest of my story, is not unlike most others, long, and more than likely a bit boring

sorry for cropping the rest of the picture, but, you understand

Re: Basel Love Stories - Inspire the Newly Single

To cut a very long story short: I was engaged to a Swiss woman, sold my house, gave up a fantastic job, put my furniture into a shipping container, bought my plane tickets, got dumped seven days before I was due to come over.

Came over anyway, was a bit miserable for a bit, pulled myself together, met a wonderful American woman, got married, live a life of Alpine ecstasy.

I don't know if Grumpygrapefruit has been mentioned yet in this thread, but he is the singularity around which the universe of Anglo life in Switzerland revolves. Go to some of his cheesy events (mainly, but not exclusively, in Zurich) and you might be surprised at the consequences.

Good luck!

Very sweet!

You have to lure me with more fancy lines than that - at least tell me you have your own teeth and hair
Damn, I'm out. I haven't had much in the way of hair for at least 20 years.

Thankfully, I'm already happily married!

Good luck to you, though. In my case, the divorce from my first wife was the best that could have happened. It freed me to meet my current wife!

Very nice story, and so charming. It's amazing what can happen out of perceived misfortune, huh.

How do I find out about Grumpygrapefruit's events? I fear I am missing a secret codeword or something.

I understand about the picture cropping - you plan to enchant me with 1 jigsaw piece of the picture every 6 months or so?

Nahhh, mine is not very interesting: I met my husband in London. He is Swiss and, after a few years, started to miss the mountains, so here we are.

It took me a while to like Switzerland, but now I do, a lot. And I still like the husband, so all is well that ends well

Good luck to you. Being single can be a lot of fun

Yes it can. I'm cool with being single, and it's certainly preferable to being in a negative relationship. I'm not into casual relationships.

Thanks for the kind words. How did you meet your current wife?
When I tell the story, no one believes me.

My wife had placed an ad in a local newspaper to the effect "Woman with horse seeks man with dog (or without)..." with her e-mail address.

I answered the ad with "I don't have a dog, but I have a horse - is that OK?". This was about 3 weeks after my (then) wife had told me that she wasn't going to be home for New Year's Eve, since she was going to spend it with her new boyfriend.

We exchanged e-mails for about a month before she agreed to meet me. Our first date was a quick trip to my stable to take my horse for a walk, then dinner. Looking back, for our first date, she went for a walk with a strange guy, a horse and the German Shepard from the stable in the woods in total darkness. She figured that I couldn't do anything "funny" because I had my hands full with the horse line and a flashlight.

It took about 6 years for me to get from "I'm never getting married again" to "Will you marry me?". I proposed on New Year's Eve, 15 minutes before midnight, on December 31, 2007 and we married in July 2008.

6 months??? not a chance, who is getting younger?

My wife told me she wanted to move home (she is from CZ) and that she was going with or without me... so, i got my work to relocate me as close as I could (ironically, i could now have them place me in prague, but for obvious and other reasons, I am staying here, I love it)

i think this is the last piece of the picture puzzle I can post [hope you do not mind I used a different photo for the second installment]

ps - from the US

but first, throwing you off track with a pic of chu chu (one of my two doggies)

Re: Basel Love Stories - Inspire the Newly Single

I have a brother and a sister. My sister is the oldest and i am the youngest.

My brother moved ot Australia and as soon as he did his friends swooped in on his sisters!

I married one of his friends and my sister has two kids with another & they are getting married in September.

My brother was best man for my husband.

he wasnt overly impressed at first as you can imagine!
