My wife had placed an ad in a local newspaper to the effect "Woman with horse seeks man with dog (or without)..." with her e-mail address.

I answered the ad with "I don't have a dog, but I have a horse - is that OK?".
It's a good job it wasn't on the forum. I'd have deleted your reply as off-topic

Re: Basel Love Stories - Inspire the Newly Single

I am sorry about the break-up ... Unfortunately I don't have inspiring love story to tell. However, maybe I can share my break-up story little bit and how I move on I had a relationship with a guy for almost 8 years and we almost got married. That time I was in Sydney. To cut the story short, he cheated on me and I thought my life was over, continue living seems pointless.

Then I got a job offer in Switzerland. I thought, why not, probably moving to a new place would help me to move on and start things fresh. But I guess I chose a not so right place, it's not very easy to meet people here. It was very difficult in the beginning and it's still not easy. But I decided to use this opportunity to do things that I want to do, travelling to as many places as possible and with the hope I will meet someone one day Surprise surprise, I still remember my ex but I couldn't feel the pain anymore.

It's not easy at all to face break-up. It sounds cliche but times will heal you. You would be surprised to know how strong you are. Something doesn't kill you, will make you stronger

6 months??? not a chance, who is getting younger?

My wife told me she wanted to move home (she is from CZ) and that she was going with or without me... so, i got my work to relocate me as close as I could (ironically, i could now have them place me in prague, but for obvious and other reasons, I am staying here, I love it)

i think this is the last piece of the picture puzzle I can post [hope you do not mind I used a different photo for the second installment]

ps - from the US

but first, throwing you off track with a pic of chu chu (one of my two doggies)
The dog is so cute! Do you go on lots of walks together? Who's walking who?

When I tell the story, no one believes me.

My wife had placed an ad in a local newspaper to the effect "Woman with horse seeks man with dog (or without)..." with her e-mail address.

I answered the ad with "I don't have a dog, but I have a horse - is that OK?". This was about 3 weeks after my (then) wife had told me that she wasn't going to be home for New Year's Eve, since she was going to spend it with her new boyfriend.

We exchanged e-mails for about a month before she agreed to meet me. Our first date was a quick trip to my stable to take my horse for a walk, then dinner. Looking back, for our first date, she went for a walk with a strange guy, a horse and the German Shepard from the stable in the woods in total darkness. She figured that I couldn't do anything "funny" because I had my hands full with the horse line and a flashlight.

It took about 6 years for me to get from "I'm never getting married again" to "Will you marry me?". I proposed on New Year's Eve, 15 minutes before midnight, on December 31, 2007 and we married in July 2008.
What a wonderful, unpredictable story! What was the purpose of her original ad, and why that particular combination?

Thanks for the lovely message. I had a bit of a teary wobble earlier, upon discovering he had written a letter for me and left it in my mailbox. I went for a long walk to dry my eyes, and put everything in perspective (rather than in a reactionary impulsive emotional order), and that helped.

Re: Basel Love Stories - Inspire the Newly Single

Sorry to hear about your break-up but it will all work out. I am sure of it.

I met my guy at the gothic music concert in Germany. I am Russian living in US traveled to see a band. He is Swiss living in Zurich traveled to Germany as well to see the same band. He heard me speaking English to someone which was a bit unusual considering the crowd. Out of curiousity he asked me where I was from.
Long story short. 5 min of conversation in Germany and the rest is history... and now, 4 years later, we are planning my move to Zurich to get married.
So you never know when and where you will meet your special one.

Thank you for sharing such a wonderful story.

You were very committed to travel from the US to Germany for this mysterious band - which band was/is it?

I traveled to see two bands actually. Eisbrecher und Unheilig. And yeah, if I really love certain music, I will travel great distance to hear it live.

Very nice story, and so charming. It's amazing what can happen out of perceived misfortune, huh.

How do I find out about Grumpygrapefruit's events? I fear I am missing a secret codeword or something.
Most of my more serious cheese and beer/wine/whisky events are published on my Facebook page (link in my signature) but for meeting new friends come to my bar at the Viadukt on a Thursday night. We get betwee 10 and 50 people of all ages and nationalities turn up each week and I guess half are single.

I can guarantee that you'll leave with a smile and a handful of new good friends.

Re: Basel Love Stories - Inspire the Newly Single

I'll tell you a story to cheer you up, Spellbound.

My brother was the classic mama's boy until he was 25, swore he would never leave our hometown nor our parents' place, ever. Then, between his master's and PhD, coming out of a nasty breakup, he decided to take a summer class in his field of study to avoid thinking about his ex all the time and do something useful. This class was full of people from all over the world, and he met this really cute girl from Madrid - a month later, he came home and announced that he was going to apply for a PhD in Madrid and he was moving there within the next month anyway. We were all shocked.

Fast forward a few years, they are still together, now married, and happily settled in Campinas, Brazil.

Chin up, look ahead, and all will be well

Beautiful, beautiful story, and it made me smile. Thanks for the loveliness. Your post is very thoughtful.

How come they ended up in Brazil? Is his wife fabulous? Do they speak Spanish or English together?

My brother is teaching at a local university for a few years. When they met, they were speaking English to each other because it was the only common language. Now they have done their homework so they speak alternatively Spanish (her mother tongue) or Italian (his mother tongue) and are at the moment having "fun" trying to learn Brazilian Portuguese

Hope to see you soon at the Viadukt. From the Zurich HB, you can take tram 13 or 4 and the stop is Dammweg. You get off the tram, cross the street, and the entrace to the Markthalle where Grumpy's spot is will be right in front of you. Cheers!

Well, I am a fan of old Unheilig music. Graf started doing this pop sounds a couple of years back. He lost lots of his old fans over it. His music is still good but not what it used to be.

I split up with my boyfriend yesterday. Hopeful stories of finding new love In Basel would be appreciated right now. I'm 30 and a lot of my friendship group is linked to him.

It will be a longer journey from just yesterday to today.
I truly believe a loved person can not be replaced so quickly or at all.

Everybody has really lovely stories, certainly worth an evening of smiles.
