Particularly around Zurich or Zug. Any places that serve special dinners?

We roast a turkey or two, but usually on a Saturday and not Thursday.

Thanksgiving has always been my favorite holiday - and the one time I truly regret being so far away.
We don't celebrate here; makes no sense when it's a work day. The last thing OH wants when he gets home late at night is a big turkey dinner with trimmings.
If the spirit moves I might do a Thanksgiving-lite sort of dinner on the weekend, but without family gathered round it seems rather hollow. Afterall, family is the whole point of the holiday.
Maybe I'll do raclette this year. If I'm forsaking my roots I might as well do something über-Swiss. |

Our Turkey days have always been Easter, Thanksgiving and Christmas... Since I've been here, I've usually skipped our typical Turkey Easter and Thanksgiving but generally I try to keep Christmas the tradition |

Best Thanksgiving ever was the "international" one we hosted when we were still in the U.S. OH had a number of research colleagues visiting from abroad, and we had them all over for a feast. Four continents and six countries were represented. A memorable evening for all!
We haven't had a such a feast here yet, but at some point I hope to have another international Thanksgiving night. Will need a larger oven for the turkey, though. |

Coincidentally, turkey has always been one of my very least favorite meats, but I'm always down for gobbling up some duck, ham, quail, etc.

I go out to the barn, look at where yesterday there were 10'000 cackling turkeys, and give thanks for this wonderful holiday.

I'll be doing it late (Dec. 8).
Think I'll do a Turducken this year, as there should be 18-20 guests (if I haven't forgotten anyone).

Tom | | | | | Dito. I believe that is what most expat Americans do in Switzerland.

That's what we did last year as well. Big meal with other expat families and neighbors on the Sunday of Thanksgiving weekend. It was a lot of fun! Joining colleague and his family this year for their little tday bash. Who wants to pass up an opportunity to spend time with friends/family over a lovely meal?

We've had some very memorable Thanksgiving dinners here (always on Saturday of course), with a mix of American and International guests. It's my favorite holiday, even without family around.

We chose to do our dinner on Sunday since Saturday is often filled with errands, activities, etc. and Sunday is a 'relax' day.

Last couple of years my wife orders turkey and the other stuff from Peacefoods (Baar just outside Zug) and we have it on the weekend, and for the next week.
This week she`s just going to bake a pumpkin pie.
The school had a combined Guy Fawke`s/ Thanksgiving celebration last week. Eat like it`s thanksgiving followed by fireworks and burning straw Guys.

IF oyu are standing outside the SBB facing towards Aeschenplatz the restaurant would be on your left. I cant remember the name of it. . . It is across from Mr. Wongs and there is a banner on the wall abvertising the Dinner!
I eat roast Turkey once per year but i think i could manage twice...

I hope in this post it is okay if Swiss people answer
In my family we've been celebrating Thanksgiving for some years now.
We mainly invite friends and are usually a party of about 15 to 20 people who share a rather big turkey and the trimmings I like. We always hold our party on Saturday at the end of November or the beginning of December.
