Hey, you might be interested in the Humble Sid Meier Bundle, which is available for two weeks starting from today.

For those of you who might not know it, the Humble Bundle Series is a project offering bundles of original games (mostly indie ones, but not exclusively as you can guess ) through Steam for whatever price the buyer wants; you can give as much (or less ) as you wish. If you pay more than the average price there are usually more games and features unlocked in the bundle. Also, the access you get to the games is unlimited and can be shared. Last but not least, you can divide how your payment will be distributed among the Humble Bundle team, the game developers and charity.

Re: Any other avid gamers out there?

I'm playing League of Legends as well, although I'm trying to resist in order to focus on my thesis . In general I enjoy a wide range of game genres, mostly on PC.
I'll name a few loved ones in case someone wants to share their love for the particular game: RPG (KOTOR, The Witcher, Fable, NWN), MMO (WoW, LoL), puzzle (numerous by Benoît Sokal, Trine, Portal 2), city building (Caesar series), action (Diablo), open ended (Minecraft), strategy (Warcraft 3). Also the odd old platform game for fun on Game Boy and N64.

I must admit I'm also an avid D&D player, I don't know if that counts! I'll surely miss my D&D party when I (finally) get to CH.
I'm always on the lookout for new (or old) games, especially if they feature co-op mode. Feel free to suggest titles!

As a curiosity, Switzerland is hosting one of these bundle sites: ikoid.com is a bundle site dedicated to Android gaming, and they are based in Zurich.

Re: Any other avid gamers out there?

Hi,

I'm over here in Switzerland on exchange with only my laptop, and I must say I miss gaming a heap.
I have a wii, but play a lot of playstation 3. I love platformers like Mario and Rayman (particularly the new Rayman games - I really appreciate beautiful visuals and a great soundtrack), but I also love Portal, Half Life, Borderlands 2, and other FPSs. As for steam games, I do enjoy some good old TF2. I can't go past any game with a good co-op mode though.

I know this is a video gaming thread, but any love for board/card games on here too?

A game of D&D perhaps?

Dungeons & Dragons [Lausanne]

I'm sure there are some board game players here too somewhere.

Re: Any other avid gamers out there?

The one and only game is: Space Station 13

It is the only game in existence where:
  • You explode into gibs if you fart on the bible.
  • Hitting people on the head with the bible heals them, and makes them slightly more retarded.
  • You can drug someone, weld them in a locker and launch them into space through a mass driver.
  • Your ass will fall off if you shit too hard.
  • You can wear your own (or someone else's) ass as a hat.
  • You can flood the station with laughing gas, where everyone starts giggling and then they drop like flies.
  • A crazy and drugged clown with severe tourette's will force feed you your own vomit laced with radium. After this, he'll try to peel a banana but accidentally poke his own eyes out with it. The captain will barge in to see what the rucus is about, but someone will douse him with sulphuric acid, then thermite and set him on fire with a plasma torch. You spontaneously mutate due to the radium, growing a beard and a pair of tits.
  • You can contract a disease that makes you grow a supreme beard. You do everything to spread the disease to the head of security.
  • You can contract a disease that turns you into a clown. You do everything to spread to disease to everyone else.
  • A person in full firefighter gear barges in, pokes you with a +2 eldritch schlong that somehow makes you lose all coordination but extremely fast. You pingpong down the hallway until the chef (who somehow talks in a swedish accent) grabs you by the neck, pulls you into the kitchen and skewers you.
  • As a Chef, you can turn asses into assburgers.
  • A blue ghostly figure occasionally stalks the dark maintenance halls, sneakily shaving unsuspecting victim's heads.
  • If you die, the geneticist will expertly clone you. Except, you'll somehow have turned out as a black woman with a bushy beard and severe epilepsy.
  • By the time they are needed, all emergency air tanks contain pure CO2 for some weird reason.
  • The bottle of pills labelled "telekinesis pills" that you found in the hallway turn out to be some hellish concoction that makes you spontaneously combust.
  • A guy in a wizards hat is running around and cursing people to have a horse's head instead of their own.
  • While having a beer in the bar, a babbling man in a grey jumpsuit runs in, injects you with something and then erupts in flames. A few seconds later you suddenly turn into a monkey.
  • Many more I can't remember now.

Oh my god yes. I even brought my dice.
(Though I tend to prefer proper boardgames to RPGs, I'm always up for D&D)

I've always avoids mmorpg like WoW, but as a big fan of Oblivion and Skyrim, I'm considering trying out Elder Scrolls Online.

The price is kinda steep, and I"ll have to find an english version, but I"m intrigued!

Like yourself, I'm a fan of the Elders Scrolls series, but I've read mixed reviews on ESO. I'm debating whether to get it for PC, or wait till it comes out on PS4 in the Summer.

Re: Any other avid gamers out there?

big fan of morrowind, skyrim and wow. im playing it in the little spare time i have. the amount of content theyve put in is staggering. so much freedom as well with regards to your playstyle. crafting is very deep as well. i think the graphics are gorgeous especially for an mmo. im not a big pvper and havent tried it yet but it looks really cool as well.

some launch hiccups as expected and still quite some bugs. waiting a couple of weeks to let them iron that out seems like a perfectly reasonable idea.

overall a refreshing and really well thought out mmorpg. i know what i will be doing during easter break

Re: Any other avid gamers out there?

I do have to say I was a bit dissapointed with Skyrim's graphics. Gameplay was great, not breakthrough, but there wasn't much new to bring from Oblivion other than improvments.

From the graphics point of view, the mods are definitely the way to go (sorry consolers--if you even venture into this tread). They aren't easy to install perfectly and there's hundreds to tweek and play with (lots of data to download). Just saw this screen shot from skyrim:

http://i.imgur.com/zNO3Cif.jpg

Hopefully soon to finish off skyrim soon and start on dawnguard and the expansions (when I have time).

Guess I'll wait to try online.

Otherwise, one can tell I'm far behind in PC gaming. Half way through Arkham City, still have to start Mass Effect 3, Crysis 3, Black Ops 2, BF4, Ghosts, Borderlands 2, Farcry 3, Bioshock Infinite, The new Batmans and Southpark.

The list gets longer and the HDD storage space gets smaller. I think I'm losing, and there's no leveling up in this battle.

I"m soo out of the loop---looks really good, will check out it out tonight--I'm guessing by the EA Origin requirements, it's not a 'torrentable' game :P

Did you see that SOE are launching a new Free to Play post-apocalyptic MMO called "H1Z1"? Coming June, I think.

Looking at some of these mods makes me want to get the PC version and play it through again. They look stunning.
