| | | Guitar Club
I used to be a member of a guitar club in UK, when sad musos would organise events and sit round and discuss the merits of resonators and alternate tuning while sitting in a rocking chair chewing a straw out there on the parlour verandah with doggie.
Anyone know of such things in Switzerland ?

I dunno about any guitar clubs per se, though I'm sure it's out there and happening.
I have an unplugged guitar session every few weeks with two other guys in Zürich, and once every month or two a small group of us bring the amps along. In summer I think we'll start jamming in the park, and I don't see any reason why anyone else can't come along.
Now I'm not especially good, but if you know of a place where we could play without annoying neighbors, well I'd be keen.

Well I've been playing for... geez, what...since probably 2003... four years or so? Even so, I'm the poor country cousin as far as ability goes. But we're all pretty tolerant of each other's faults. I'm also the youngest, at 25.
Artcore? I don't know it. Both of my guitars were made in China.
No we're definitely not serious. We just show up and chill out for the evening. If someone doesn't show, we play other songs. We pretty much just do covers, though the other two sometimes do improv blues which I'm keen to pick up.
Until now one of the guys was a janitor in a gym hall on Thursday nights and we used one of the changing rooms, but since he quit that job we've got to find someplace else. When summer comes it'll probably be outdoors. And before then? Well we'll keep looking.

Ibanez make some good value guitars, Ive not played this one though. Gretsch, Guild and Epiphone make similar models if you like that nice....mellow... sound, or if you have more money than sense you can get a Gibson. gitarrentotal.ch has plenty of guitar-porn that will arouse you.
Strats leave me cold unfortunately although I came close to buying a Tele once to try and learn some Hot Country...and failed.
dave | Quote: | | | | | Ibanez Artcore AF105, also made in China. It's a hollowbody electric archtop, the kind with double f holes. It's what I take to my lessons when we are working on Jazz-like stuff.
My Stratocaster (in my avatar) is really my favorite, though. You just can't hear anything unplugged.
My company has a sport hall, I have to ask if it is available for use (I also have to ask who to ask...) It is in Ebikon (Near Luzern) though, and I have the idea that most people here are nearer Zurich.

Hers a few to get you started, none of them except musik produktiv are particularly cheap or inspiring. I am currently in London, which has a far wider selection. - musig hug on Limmatplatz
- gitarrentotal in Wiedikon
- musik produktiv (other side of Baden)
- Theres a small one at the Bellvue end of Niederdorf on the corner
- Theres one off Niederdorf near the Barfuss bar down past the strange aquarium cinema bar
Spank that plank and let your guitar tell the truth.

Aren't music Hug and Jecklin totally overpriced? I've seen some super expensive gear in their shop windows. I also remember walking past a guitar only store in Winterthur that sells second hands, however I forgot the name, anyone knows it?

Yeah thats "Central Music". The one in Winterthur is called Strings, and down back alley need the Design Museum I think. I was there last week.

There's a shop across the road from the Altstetten train station, and there's also one on Sihlfeldstrasse, not far from Hardbrucke.
But if you ask me, everything I own I've bought from a place in Olten called Firewood Gmbh. It's a little shop run by two guys who really have their heart in it. I get lessons from them too.

I have a bass (just some cheapy make I think, I wanna get a Rickenbacker one and be just like Mani) and have yet to even start learning it. I brought it with me, in the hope I'd get my ass into gear and learn it!
Are there any bassists on here that do lessons?

Well I'm not at all against getting together and hammering something out, regardless of how bad it sounds. If you manage to get the use of the sports hall I'll bring the acoustic (the electric is a bit of a hassle).

| | | Re: Guitar Club Thats not an amp. I have a small tranny Marshall 15W that should suit, unless you wanna lug my behemoth Boogie (you won't, it weighs a ton)
dave | Quote: | | | | | You say the electric is a hastle, do you have a microcube? I've taken mine with me on vacations, my wife only complained a little tiny bit. | | | | | | | This user would like to thank DaveA for this useful post:

Yeah, I could get a microcube. It would probably do for what we need it for.
I've emailed one of the guys from the group to see how far he's able to travel.

Ooh why not then. I know not nearly enough about the techy element of guitaring to have sensible discussion about augmented 7th chords, amps, pedals, etc, but I don't mind a good social with some guitar thrown in.

I am sure we can trade a few hot licks (man) while augmenting the vodka with the 7th pitcher.

Pignose.
dave | Quote: | | | | | No, it's not, but it's good enough for weekend vacations. The little marshall MG15 etc. have a much better speaker.
I built a little all-tube 1/2 watt Gilmore Jr and have occassionally used the 'line out' from that into the 'CD in' of tranny amps, so it feels more like a tube amp. A lot of transistor amps have a noise supressor built in, but usually not on the CD input.
I would keep it simple before dragging amps and cabs around.

dave | | | | | Dave,
I was going to ask about guitar clubs, but for teenagers. My son (almost 15) has this "hobby" in the US for 3 years now, and plays mostly rock
He takes lessons once a week, and I think he will not survive without his guitar. We will be moving to CH in the summer. Do you know about anyone offering lessons in the Winterthur area?
