You could donate them to people in need? I am sure many would be grateful for it.

We are in a similar situation in that we are leaving Lausanne shortly and have clothes and items we do not plan to take with us.

I would be interested in hearing of local places that accept donated clothes and children's items.

Usually the Salvation Army, Armee du Salut, will take them.

Re: Where to sell used clothes in Zurich or Luzern

Does the equivalent of a consignment shop exist in Switzerland?

I live outside of Lausanne in Vaud. We received bags for donating just last week.

Not sure what you mean by consignment shop? There are few charity shops, compared to the UK where many High Streets are totally taken over by them. In Neuchâtel, there is one called La Grapilleuse at the top of Rue de Chavannes. And in La Chaux-de-Fonds there is Le Troc- perhaps this is what you mean. They take in goods from private people for re-sale- clothes, furniture, records, decoration, carpets, sport and music stuff, electrical goods, etc. When they sell it, they take a 30% cut and pass on the rest to the original owner. They have a few more franchises around CH.

www.troc.com

I love going round - but it's one of those places where one day you'll find great things, and another, nothing. Just pot luck.

In Neuch, the Salvation Army and the Centre Social Protestant also take donations for re-sale. But a warning, in Switzerland they will only take suff which is in excellent condition.
