Lake Geneva is probably the nearest for real mountain scenery and lakes. Try Rochers de Naye. Alternatively, Lucerne for Pilatus or Rigi

and Estavayer
But most lakes like the Lac Léman (Lake of Geneva / Genfersee), Murten-See, Vierwaldstätter-See, Lake of Zürich, Lake of Zug, Bodensee (Lake of Constance), offer nice views onto the mountains, particularily in good weather with Föhn (southwind). The following is the alps from Zürich and the pic above shows Zürich with the alps from the "Waid" area
and above the alps from the "Badi Mythenquai" in Zürich

Here is a link to Rigi. If you are at the top, there
are breathtaking views of Lake Luzern. http://www.rigi.ch/de/welcome.cfm |

if you go to Geneva, don't forget to go to the Salève (bus and cabincar), there's an amazing view over Geneva and it's lake and also over the Mont-Blanc and other mountains.
just an idea of it http://www.clevr.com/pano/23878 and http://www.clevr.com/pano/23874 | | This user would like to thank SuisseRomand for this useful post:

He when growing up in Stein am Rhein was much bored by certain family excursions there, but was clear about the point that the Salève is a bit of a difference. He was happy to have left Stein-am-Rhein and lived for many years in London and in Budapest but then for four decades in Geneva. He loved Zürich and Lugano, but not Basel.

If you can afford it, buy yourself a GA card and plan every other weekend away exploring a part of Switzerland. Join up with local groups who organise hikes and tours of the countryside.

Don't forget you have a very unique attraction right on your doorstep: http://www.neuchateltourisme.ch/en/d...ocle.1458.html
It's quite intesting and amazing how ingenious our ancestors were.
Also Vallorbe is good for a day out with the grotto, the iron and railway museum and the Second World War underground fort. http://www.vallorbe.ch/fr/vieculture...stouristiques/
These places may not be open or have only limited opening times until March/April, but you can find the opening times easily enough.

We visited La Chaux-de-Fonds and Le Locle and the Lac de Doubs (Lake of Doubts ) and visited an uncle in Les Verrières. The uncle was very very old and the place rather boring, but the whole thing overall was interesting |

Another possibility is the Sherlock Holmes Museum in Lucens. This is a very personal museum as Sir Arthur's son, Adrian, owned the chateau at Lucens for some years so lots of family mementos, etc. Unfortunately, no longer housed at the chateau, but in a house in the town. http://www.lucens.ch/TOUR/Sherlock.html | | This user would like to thank Medea Fleecestealer for this useful post:

We only discovered the one at Lucens when we drove by the town and saw the signs mentioning it by the roadside. I'm not sure that even many die hard Sherlock Holmes fans know of the one at Lucens.

I up to now only knew the Sherlock Holmes Pub and Museum at Trafalgar in London. As much as I loved the place as such I always fled the place as it was so smoke filled. Quite many pubs in London were incredibly and painfully smoke filled, and that otherwise nice place was one of them

Never been to the one in Meiringen either. In spite of having heard about it many years ago. Next time when going to Geneva reroute via Brünig and Meiringen and Lucens and Lausanne might be an idea |
