Taking the children to Kinderfasnacht parade and was curious if there is a suggested location over others. Kids are 6 & 7 (Mobile). For the life of me I can't seem to locate a Start time and have been watching the 2 live cams at the link below for activity. Thanks for any info.

I'm still not sure of a time of day and exact location/route. Thanks for the input and I still welcome any related info as I have 2 boys chomping at the bit to get out and have fun.

Why do they lead you believe otherwise? When the official website says "there is no main procession"......I think its pretty clear, no?

Anyway, just get out there, there will be lots going on in the streets

I believe kinderfasnacht begins at 2:00pm, I'm not quite sure the parade route either, but am sure if you head into town around that time you'll find it!

Because the 2nd linked page says this.

"The Children's Carnival offers a costume parade for families with children through the streets of the city of Basel . The floats which provide children in a shower of confetti with all sorts of sweets."

I was also curious when it started and what the parade route would be. I heard from several people that kinderfasnacht is today. I also was told that there was an english program online stating the route and times, but I have yet to find it.

Yeah, actually, I've been lying to you in my previous posts and I linked to a made-up website. There IS a parade route and a specific start time, but you need to have ten posts and be a member for a week to see it - sorry

Just look for the 2 loudest children and a guy wearing a furry camo hat to find us

By the way, there was a parade. I also looked at the site on Sunday evening, and saw there were parades on Monday and Wednesday only, so we went on Monday, but since today is children's day, we went today too. The parade was on, less organised, less structured, smaller floats (unless I missed the bigger ones) but really great for children. I felt a bit silly as I had told two people I knew that there would be no parade today.

Yes it was great fun for the kids and I got my fill of Oranges. Nearly caught one in the face though. Glad we didn't miss out on the fun. We now have a year supply of candy. Break out the tooth brushes

I think that to understand the difference between an organised parade and a "not official parade", one needs to get into the Swiss mindset.

As the websites said, and I said....it is just "wandering about" - the fact that when the Swiss wander, they all wander in the same direction at about the same time, doesn't mean that its "organised" . For "organised", they need badges and start times and security on the route, and permits and permission to join the parade. Yesterday was just anybody show up, dress up, put your kids in a wheel barrow or trolley (what do they do with these buggy things for the rest of the year) and join the throng. That's why I was saying, just show up.

Today's bash will be much more grand with the full parade and procession - certainly worth a look

I have joined the Kinder Fasnacht for the last four years, I found it quite nice and my daughter loves it, however this year was quite crowded. I recommend to find a good spot as the parades tend to be a bit disorganized (what a surprise in Switzerland!) and sometimes there is a bit of caos

I have been with my friend and her kids 6 and 7 this year at the kinderfasnacht. It was nice. On the Grossbasel side it was pretty crowded, so we decided to go the Kleinbasel. At Wettsteinplatz there was enough place for everyone and I was even able to chat a bit with my friend while the kids watching the parade- they came back with sweets flowers and other stuff. I recommend to take a bag with you. I felt it was a nice corner to go.
