Buying a Natural Mattress

I'm looking to buy a natural mattress and am wondering if anyone has already done so here in CH (Zurich area). Anyone have one that they recommend? Don't recommend? Any good stores to check out?

Re: Buying a Natural Mattress

Try europe-nature.ch. We have not purchased a mattress there but have bought some of their other housewares. Quality is great and the prices surprisingly low for Switzerland.

.....The mattress flolloped around. This is a thing that only live mattresses in swamps are able to do, which is why the word is not in more common usage. It flolloped in a sympathetic sort of way, moving a fairish body of water as it did so. It blew a few bubbles up through the water engagingly. Its blue and white stripes glistened briefly in a sudden feeble ray of sun that had unexpectedly made it through the mist, causing the creature to bask momentarily......

....sorry, couldn't resist the HGTTG quote

Re: Buying a Natural Mattress

Did you have any luck? I am trying to find a natural crib mattress. Last time I bought one from the UK but that was $$$ with shipping. I am struggling to find a local supplier.

That's not expensive for a mattress !

You spend 30% of your life in bed, approx 8 hours/day.

A mattress lasts 10 years.

Chf 2'500/10 years = Chf 250/year

Less than Chf 1.-- per day for a comfortable nights' sleep, cheap at double the price !

Agreed for an adult bed- this is a baby mattress so only for a short period.

Only if you're crazy enough to pay that price. We got our mattresses from Aldi at 99 francs each around 10 years ago now. Still comfortable and certainly a LOT cheaper!

I'd like to know if the manfacturer can confirm that all that horsehair came from horses that had been fed organically. Doubt it very much. If they can't then you may as well buy cheap and throw away after a few years because there'll be plenty of chemicals contained in it.

A Chf 99.-- mattress cannot be compared to a mattress at over Chf 2'500.-- by anybody's stretch of imagination !

You can save money everywhere, but at some point something has to give quality wise if it becomes too cheap, that is a fact of life.

Re: Buying a Natural Mattress

So long as you find a mattress that is comfortable that's all that matters - whether it costs 2,500 or only 99. If it's uncomfortable and you can't sleep then you've wasted whatever money you spent to buy it.

Re: Buying a Natural Mattress

Our bed is a futon bought at Hüsler Nest/Indigo Betten in Zürich.

Not cheap and incredibely heavy, but natural and extremely comfortable, it's the first bed I have that I really find comfortable.
