Anyway..... I have a friend who is on ALL the dating sites. She is genuinely gorgeous with a figure that will stop traffic, super intelligent (doctorate candidate anyone?), speaks 4 language fluently, has a great job, funny, sweet as pie... basically she is perfect, and she can't get find love online.

Being none of those things and having been in a series of one long term relationship after another, I do wonder what she is doing wrong......
I'm guessing she is probably super picky to the point of near-ridiculousness, like many beautiful, highly educated, career-oriented women. It's probably hard to find a guy who measures up to that in terms of achievements, and I'll wager she overlooks a lot of guys (even if subconsciously) because of that.

I promise you she isn't that picky in terms of looks, job, etc. But her problem is (now that we are talking brass tacks) that she's 38 and is looking for commitment. She wants a guy who wants to get married and have kids. Probably a very bad age bracket for that. Or maybe she's coming across too desperate?... I dunno.

So.... any EFers who are ready to commit and want to have a family? I can introduce you!

she can just go to any bar, pick a random guy and get a free sperm donation there and then.

or she can ask Juan Sanchez Villalobos for some advice

Well, unfortunately that's the price you pay for sacrificing a real chance at family life during the normal biological times, in lieu of a lengthy education and high-powered career. Seems to be common nowadays for women to get to their late 30's and suddenly stop and think: "Oh shit, I've forgotten something...", and then begin a mad scrabble to fit in 10 years of normal progressional relationships within the couple of years of rapidly diminishing fertility they have left to produce some sprogs. She has my sympathies, but no-one to blame but her herself I guess.

Re: Any success stories with dating sites yet?

Meanwhile, I wrote some stuff, at the end of which was written "did you actually read this?"

Invariably, I always responded to those said they had.

Of course, I ended up with someone who speaks no English!

(though she has sort of learned to say "squirrel" (ask any Italian to try), "rabbit", and "I love you")

My late wife was seven years older, not sure if I'd do it again though.

The "younguns" generally want cougars for only one thing, a good time. If they want kids, they will go for someone of a similar age or younger where there is no pressure and no rush to have a family. She needs to be lucky enough to meet someone a similar or slightly older age than her (ideally for her not previously married, I guess) who also wants kids in the same timeline. In short, unless she makes some compromises she may well be heading for Spinsterhood.

Probably not a good idea to show her this thread, don't want her depressed and in floods of tears after she reads it.

Re: Any success stories with dating sites yet?

Reality is, when I became widowed, I avoided women below 40 as I didn't want more kids at my age (44 at the time).

I do know people who have had kids in their 40's (or even 50's), but I really find it a bad idea.

My late wife had kids at 20, 30, and 40. She said 30 was best, and I believe her.

I didn't know we were in the business of showing our EF posts to people whom we talk about here.

And other thing is that, if a woman of 35+ is out there nagging her man for more assurance and maturity like getting married, settling down and having kids, then the person in question should consider himself lucky enough to even be around those type people. That is what I am craving for right now. Had it not been for the foolish assumptions I made years ago, --of hoping to settle down, once I was financial secure-- (which is yet to happen anyway ) I would've married and had kids by the time, I was even 21 and surely, wouldn't have regretted at now.

You really do seem to have a penchant for allowing not-so-subtle humour for flying directly over your head and taking things literally. Not a native English-speaker, I presume.

Do you consider pedantry to be an attractive quality in you?
I'm sorry you think I'm being pedantic. The wink was supposed to indicate humor, as in perhaps you got auto-corrected by whatever device you were using. Happens all the time. Or maybe you really did mean aviators, who knows. But no matter, sometimes it's hard to tell humor from "snipe" on the Internet...and often on EF.

So thanks for the neg rep, but I'm not going to stoop that low myself and retaliate. I'll stick with a wink and get on with my day. Wishing you a good day too, in spite of this ugly weather.

Ha... sometimes even being a native speaker doesn't help, as I've watched UK comedies and just come away scratching my head!
