Yeah, it's rubbish. A friend persuaded/nagged me to join. I don't see the point.

Save your money. Enjoy your solitude.
If you already have someone to nag you, why do you need a dating site?
:P

They've started sending emails saying I should join their sister sites "datingbuddies" and "sinfulbuddies", even suggesting that I have messages there that I can't read until I join.

Seems like the usual scam ploys to hook people in and extract as much money as possible from them.

Avoid them at all costs

At least I get my "I told you so" moment.

I was going to make an account to thelocal.ch
for having access to their forum.
By the way, does anyone know if they are honest in their remainder site, or should I avoid them at all?

Well, if their emails to me are right, then people are reading and responding to a profile of someone not even on their site. So they're being lied to, and their version of the site is pretending to have more members than it does. Presumably that works the same on both sites.

If not, then I'm being lied to, to get me to double or triple my subscription costs.

Either way, somebody is being scammed.

Note: The actual dating site isn't run, by The Local (it seems to be a branded datingfactory.com site). But they seem happy to put their name to it, and presumably take the referral fees.

Re: Any success stories with dating sites yet?

Only just spotted the comment on the 'Dating Factory' as only today just managed to get myself out of a brief 4 day membership when it became apparent what a sham it is.... so avoid. BTW this is the one with a link at the top of this page 'Dating'!??

Once signed up for free ..you see evidence of contact emails arriving... hey for 29 for one month you gotta take a look at them.... then you see that the whole site seems to be run on auto generated 'ice breakers' between mainly non existent members to try and drum up business. The corny emails as well..'like whoa tiger she is interested'..

Now trying to get out of it was a problems unlike any other. the link to disable the auto renewal is permanently disabled and sent an email formally requesting it..was sent a form back that needed to be to signed and 'FAXED' back.. who has one of those these days?! Replied no ...take this as evidence..another identical form sent back to me....

Save yourself a lot of hassle, there are so many better ones around....with actual people on them you can meet!!

Maybe just do some actual research before giving your credit card details to a company you know nothing about?

Formal links mean nothing on any professional website, especially one like The Local. It is just paid advertising, nothing more nothing less.

Re: Any success stories with dating sites yet?

one or two... OKCupid seems a good format and a good mix of people on it.
Tried Tinder... think I should leave that to my teenage daughters..or that's what they certainly think!!

Well Belinda had more than 136 first dates but never a second one.... and she's far from being an ugly duck. Must be a tough cookie.

I don't want to draw conclusions about her based solely on the article above but:

- Her second picture shows shes is not as beautiful as supposed by the first one.

- From the third it seems she is overweight (eg.: arms, face)

- She is already 35. It limits her prospects to >35 olds, men who usually can date girls in their late 20s or already had been married or have children already.

But most importantly, unfortunately the thirties is the age in which most women are desperately trying to find the father of their children. Even though no woman will admit it, the reality is that the biological clock is ticking and it messes up with their mind, hindering them from simply enjoying a new relationship. At every date they will think "Is he the one? Or should I dump him and try the next one?"

As my mother said one time: "at 35 a women already rounded The Cape of Hope".

I hear of a lot of people who are taking their photos and being a tad too "creative" on dating sites. They have to meet in person so you can imagine how that goes

Being 35+ does make it harder, sadly! many women I know agree with this. Esp if you add kids to the equation
