Re: Any success stories with dating sites yet?

I think the main problem with dating, be it using websites, friends or bars, is our own expectations of the other person. It seems we all have laundry lists of likes/dislikes, etc. and are quick to dismiss anyone that doesn't immediately fit our profile of the perfect man/woman. Reality is so much different. Nobody is perfect. Some of the things you are sure you can't live without suddenly become less important when you meet the right person. You just have to be open to it. IMHO, poor spelling online would not be a deal-breaker. Terrible conversation skills and table manners in person would be.

What's sagging?

I am afraid to google that.

Anyways. As long as people do not smack gum loud, litter and I don't see their underwear, say hello, bye and thank you, plays decent chess, who cares.

I am kidding, but how can one clearly define something that is in some way undefinable? And I feel kinda shouldn't be..no? I know poetry is luxury in life, but let's leave some stuff just out there. Undefined. Just sayin'..

Grüässli,Hoi Zusammen,
This Los Angeles native southern Californian has been searching for so soo long to fulfill his life long dream to get married the first time and marry a Swiss woman. It never has nothing to do with remain in the country.
(Sadly,a couple of Swiss ex-girlfriends were just out of a nasty marriage;and don't want to ever get married again in their life.)

Swiss woman are the best, with their healthy glowing beauty and charm, their total strength, creativity, smart knowledge;they are always practical and frugal and their love and care is like no other woman on this Earth.

Happy Frühlingsbeginn everyone !!

Re: Any success stories with dating sites yet?

I have tried signing up on a couple of occasions, but find these sites quite intimidating in reality. As a basically shy person, I'm not going to be the one sending random "Hi, how are you?" messages to people whom I have never met and about whom I know nothing ; nor do I know quite what to respond when faced with someone telling me "Hi, I'm sunshine6789, why don't we chat?" Not to mention the terrifying prospect of actually being recognised by someone from the office or similar !

Not really for me, I suspect

Get a grip will you! You don't have to post a picture if you don't want to, you can always agree to send it to anyone interested in your profile (although it does reduce your chances). I am very shy and I certainly never imagined myself on one of these sites. But once I made the decision to try, it became a little easier and after a while almost as natural as talking to a friend Besides this is the easiest way to start to talk to someone you don't know, certainly far easier than going up to them in a bar etc.

As for work colleagues finding out, they would say nothing as the only reason they would see your profile would be because they are also looking. So if they push you out of the provebial closet of internet dating they would also do it to themselves

Be brave and give it a go you really have nothing to lose except a bit of your time and you have a lot to gain

Re: Any success stories with dating sites yet?

Who says you have to be honest, anyway? Ok before you groan just wait...

When I used a dating site ages ago, I used a fake name, modified job description, and generic location to get started. All the other information was accurate. I did not post a pic. I worked at a university and was concerned about getting matched with a student or colleague. Once I got to the stage of meeting in person (which happened a few times) I told the other person the truth and the reasoning behind the minor deception, and sent a photo. None of them had a problem with it.

I met some very nice guys, and am still friends with a few of them. One of them even came to my wedding! This was a U.S. dating site, btw, so not sure how much luck you'll have here. But give it a try!

Is your hubby someone you met online dating?

When questions would come up initially, about subjects you were lying about, would you repeat the lies, or avoid answering? I'm curious to know how much of an about-face it was, when you did the eventual reveal.

Haha, rereading my post I see the confusion. The friend that came to our wedding was a guy I had met online, and dated, prior to meeting my hubby. The friend and his daughter both came to the wedding. I also met 5 or 6 other guys in person over the course of the time I did the online thing. Nothing serious resulted, but I met some nice folks.

When questions would come up I would keep it general. I found it was easy for them to understand I didn't want to reveal loads of personal details before I knew them better. Keep in mind we're not talking truckloads of lies. Just a few of the very specific details being modified until you know the other person isn't a nutjob. I didn't lie about age, height, weight, hobbies, interests, education level, family, pets, etc.

Example of how the conversations went, upon meeting in person:

Me: So now that we're meeting face-to-face, I'd like to clarify a few things.
Him: Okay... (he's thinking I'm married or have a half-dozen kids at home or something)
Me: My real name is _____, but I have used a fake name online so that crazy people can't stalk me. I really work at _____. I left out details there because I was concerned about getting matched with a student or colleague. I'm from _____ town. I said ____ because at least people know where that is. Everything else I told you was true.
Him: That's cool. So tell me more about...

And that was it. Again, this is with Americans. Not sure if you'd have the same results here. Just using the story to encourage people to put themselves out there and meet new people (even if virtually).

Yeah, and they are also some of the most conservative, reserved, stubborn and unhumorous women you will ever meet too. The divorce rate here is also around 53%, which means you have a 50/50 chance of her staying with you. In your case I imagine the odds are slightly worse.
