Re: Weather!

Just got back from Yverdon. First time I swam in the lake during rain and thunderstorm Soooo refreshing. Passed really strong deluge on the way back (there was even some hail).

Hate to spoil your fun but you really shouldn't swim during a thunderstorm. I've been at swim meets where we have waited for over and hour for swimming to be continued as it wasn't deemed safe.

From the National Geographic - I presume they are right.

People on or in or near water are among those most at risk during thunderstorms. Swimming is particularly dangerous, as not only do swimmers protrude from the water, presenting a potential channel for electrical discharge, but also because water is a good conductor of electricity.

Riding a bike during a thunderstorm can also be quite dangerous.

Re: Weather!

It's *lovely* in Basel.

All my windows open, just washed my balcony by throwing buckets of water over it (can't get away with that when it's not heavy rain as my landlord can spot who did it and bollocks me for splashing mud around in the garden below) and now sitting out on it, with a cool breeze and a fresh smell.

It meant the big BBQ we'd arranged down by the river is cancelled, but I don't care. I love thunderstorms.

Last week in Wales, two hikers got struck dead by lightening, on the Brecon Beacons.
Apparently, selfie-sticks can be dangerous, too.

Not just people either. A horse was killed and another injured in their field overnight by a lightning strike.

"A horse has died and another has been seriously injured after being struck by lightning in the early hours of this morning (Friday 17 July).
The 15.2hh bay gelding, named George, was found dead in his field in Stanhoe, Norfolk, by his owners at 7.30am.
His fieldmate Maxine, a 16.2hh dark bay mare owned by the same family, wasseriously injured and unable to move.
It is thought the horses were struck by lightning at around 3am during the heavy storm.

Re: Weather!

Friends cycling back from Lac des Taillères were caught in huge hail stones last night- then we had a lovely dinner and evening sitting out in garden. Around 4am huge thunder storm and loads of rain- but by breakfast sun was out and had a great sunny very warm day - they are out walking the Gorges de la Poetta Raisse.

Re: Weather!

Good luck to them!!

I walked five minutes to Denners to get some beers and needed a shower when i got home.

It is nastily heavy and humid here.

Next year i shall buy the fans in January, when it is minus whatever.
