It's only a new word suggestion and the status is pending at the moment in the Collins dictionary so not official yet.
Doesn't change the fact that I think it's a horrible word and won't use it.

It is certainly sweltering though.
It is just a word- no need for all the hate .... is the heat getting to you

Anyhow, got the message fhe first time about 'sweltering' thanks, but I like sveltering better Anyhow, it must be, been sweating buckets cleaning after visitors and then doing the neighbour's garden before they get back tomorrow. Still so hot- hope for that storm tonight.

Forecast is for violent storms tonight according to Meteo Suisse so good luck everyone.
Whenever Meteo Suisse forecasts a storm, I lose all hopes of one turning up. Hope I am wrong this time as http://www.blitzortung.org/Webpages/...lang=en&page=1 is showing a wall of thunderstorms extending from Lucerne to Bex

The heat isn't bothering me at all actually. Although it's been hot it's been perfectly acceptable today as far as I'm concerned.
I just really don't like silly made up names from TV shows creeping into everyday language when there are perfectly good words in existence already. Scorchio is just one if those words.

It's thundering really loudly here and the satellite signal has gone for the sky box but it's still sunny and no sign of rain. It's really weird.

Re: Weather!

I agree about the silly words Belgianmum. They come up with the most ridiculous things to replace perfectly good words that have been around for ages. Probably came out of America as most of these things do - remember the "sanitary engineer" for "plumber"?

Been a few grumbles here and had a short, sharp downpour but it's clearing off again now. Just a few rumbles in the distance.

Weather!

We're having thunder and a bit of rain. It was rather hot today, but cooling down now. As for the words, this American prefers freaking (or the alternative) hot.

ETA: as an aside, I'm listening to an old George Carlin routine about the rise euphemistic language and the increase in bloodless, lifeless language. Such a genius....the stuff is timeless!

Woohoo. This was worth waiting for. Massive storm just hit and it's tipping it down. Wall to wall thunder and lightening. It's amazing.

Again meh!

In Basel, half of the sky was cleared and the other half was thundering and lightening and it passed with a big disappointment.

Re: Weather!

Wind is going to be a factor over the next 24 hrs. - make sure all the batches are hattoned down and all inflatables are nailed down.

Storms are a bit hit and miss - there's flashes and grumblings around; a bit of heavy rain and frozen ice lozenges falling from the sky, then all is calm again .... but the wind is coming.

..... and as for you old dears, quibbling about the language, I'm completely gobsmacked.

Can you get unfrozen ice?

Today's hunt was not really successful... Some storms just don't want to be photographed...
