Since when is it a crime, everyone around us puts their washing out on a sunday and plenty with it out now. It just an EF myth to scare newbies
Nobody bats an eyelid around here and one of the neighbours was even mowing his grass on Sunday but there are plenty of place where it's not allowed.

There are some places where it's written into the contract that you're not allowed to dry washing on the balcony at all never mind on Sundays.

It was technically not allowed on Sundays where we lived in Germany and one neighbour used to roll her eyes whenever I did it but nobody ever said anything.

Re: Weather!

It goes back to the Christian heritage of CH- requiring that the day of the Sabbath be a day of rest. Not that long ago cafés and restaurants had to be closed (I remember this to be the case in Wales too when we visited in the 70s). No longer inscribed inm Law, but certainly older people, especially in rural areas, just would find it offensive or at best a bit strange.

This is not just Swiss, same in any country with a Christian heritage. In our hamlet, there are no elderly people left, and nobody is religious, so nobody minds- although if someone is clearly having a party or BBQ, etc, we automatically take care not to disturb with the lawn-mower or put washing on the line. Just courtesy.

I'm leaving because the weather is too good. I hate Zurich when it's not raining.

Still lovely down here. Sitting on the patio enjoying a well earned cup of tea after working in the garden for most of the day.

Re: Weather!

Just came back from Spain and although weather wise both countries can be on par right now, I hate pollen here which is all over the place. Sneezing, allergies and bleeding nose - the best can describe my unimaginable dissappointment with the weather

I'm really quite bored with the rain now. Even the dogs looked fed up during our walk this morning.

I think the weather forecasters are SRF are getting fed up with hate mail. Tonight they talked about some place in India (forget the name) that is the wettest place on earth. Part of the daily psychology statement to make people feel better about the rain in Switzerland.

Looking for the Ark.
I'm looking for a cute but worthy pair of rain boots.
(Yesterday, out walking a dog, I came in and my shoes were soaked through)

Re: Weather!

Now this is a first- and some will find this very difficult to believe or understand-

but I want FLIES

Lots of swallows and house-martins arrived 3 weeks ago from their amazing treck from Africa- and they have absolutely nothing to eat- our barn is full of nests, and I've already found several dead ones on the floor- has they arrive starving from the South- and if they can't feed immediately and in large quantities on arrival- they cannot survive. We are feeding the other garden birds- but you just can't feed swallows and house-martins- they have to remain on the wing and find insects - or die. So let's hope warm, dry weather will soon be back so some of them survive to breed and have young which have time to learn to fly and get stron before they have to make the massive treck back to Africa.

Re: Weather!

At least all that rain put a stop to my horrendous hayfever!

And I'm not sure if it's good or bad, but my son decided to try breeding snails... We now have a terrarium at home and everyday he brings back a few new snails for it... We're waiting for some mating and eggs now...

He should come here, there are literally hundreds of them crawling up our garage walls and door and they seem to be mating just fine. The tiny snails are really quite cute in a weird sort of way but I really would prefer not to have them.

Re: Weather!

Sun is poking through at last and it feels much warmer ... swallows and house-martins are out looking for those elusive flies- let's hope they find something to eat.

Time to get my boots on and go and start picking those wonderful St Georges Mousserons (mushrooms) from our field- yum.
