Just depends on your contract- what does it say?

Here there is no concierge - so we will be shovelling and snow-blowing galore!
It is not stated about the snow in the contract, but there is a grounds keeper listed on the news board in the staircase. The problem is, he/she does not live in the building...

Re: Weather!

Ah well, best talk to your neighbours or the concierge before it starts dumping then- and be ready.

The other issue of course is what happens to all the snow dumped at the entrance to your drive by the Council Snow plough- at times it can be 50cm high or more after they've been- right in front of my garage and the drive to Oh's carport. We are retired- so not too bad- but you may well have to get up 15mins or more earlier soon!

Well we live in a small cluster of houses so the plough should not cut us off. They should come to our internal road I think, IDK what are the usual arrangements here...

Re: Weather!

Gosh, hard to believe the forecast says we're due to see bad weather in the next few days. What another glorious day it is today. Went down with my rubbish bag to the communal bins this morning just after 8.30 and it was already too warm to wear my light summer jacket.

Re: Weather!

The block of apartments where I live has a concierge and a small snow plough. The brilliant architect who designed the block built a special room for the plough. Only problem was the entrance was down a slope about a metre below road level. So when it snowed then you had to dig out the snow plough before you could use it.
Now the concierge keeps it in the "tiefgarage" which is an improvement.

But the "tiefgarage" has an entrance about 2 metres below road level and the entrance way in is curved. So when there is heavy snow it fills up like a spoon and then the plough is not powerful enough to get out!

Winter tyres are not about snow. They are used below certain temperature because the material they are produced from exhibit a proper grip on the road usually below 7C. For snow you have to fit chains

Re: Weather!

Nope- only for some extreme snow conditions- very rare here as roads are cleared all the time from very early in the morning. We have lived here for 6 years, up in the Jura at nearly 1000m, and have never ever had to use chains.

Having my snow tyres fitted tomorrow.

Well, obviously you don't have to use chains if the roads are clean They are also snow-free above 7C Winter tyres fare well on snow-mud but, if the roads are white and icy, snow chains will save you from skidding off the road.

Re: Weather!

Same here, we did buy a set of snow chains the winter after we moved here, but we never used them. Even though hubby goes off to work around 6am, the snow plough has usually done the main road and our little offshoot road as well.

Re: Weather!

Honestly- then we would have to have chains fitted for several months a year- we don't. We have front wheel drive, OH a 4X4 with snow tyres. Never use chains!

You have white and icy roads often then? Ps. do you have snow chains road signs where you live now?

Re: Weather!

LOL yes! Even though the roads are cleared all the time- there is always a layer left- and our private road is not cleared as often as the main road and on a hill. No problem! No chains (99% of the time)- pick the right car and chains. We sold our rear wheel drive BoxterS before moving here!
