Re: Any english speaking bar in Zurich?

Maybe you can start with the Irish pubs, although, knowledge of German would be desired, as would prior experience of course.

I don't know of any bars or pubs where a Swiss customer would be expected to order in English - even in most of the English or Irish pubs in Zurich/Basel, locals will usually order in Swiss German.

... however, since the sort of vocabulary you would need for the job is quite specialised and 'limited', if you were really keen, you could probably learn a lot of it from folk on here and by visiting relevant places, looking at the menus and listening hard.
It is nothing new for a waitress to ask for the order to be repeated or to ask to be shown the dish on the menu. Some of the guests will not be Swiss German speaking anyway. And it has been known for a genuine Swiss customer to order a 'Schorle' (Mineral water/fruit juice - in Switzerland apple juice, in Germany the fruit needs to be specified) and be brought a 'Schale' coffee with hot milk - by a genuine Swiss waitress.

Fully agree. I just wanted to point out that if you want a job where you never speak any German, a job where you deal with customers is not really an option, as nowhere has an exclusively English-speaking clientele. But as Longbyt says, learning enough to get by is really not hard, and will make the rest of the stay in Zurich easier and more fun too.

Been there, done that. But in my case it turned out both the customer (me) and the waitress were British *facepalm*

Reminds me of the old joke. Big restaurant in the Alps. Big sign English spoken / On parle franšais . Englishman enters and tries to communicate with the personnel but nobody speaks English or French. Finds the owner and asks him WHO spoke English and French there. Replies the owner our guests
