Where is the nearest German post office to Basel?

Hi Everyone,

Can you let me know where the nearest German post office is? I need to post some mail to Germany, and want to do so from within Germany.

Thanks in advance

Try the ones in "Weil am Rhein".

Re: *BASEL PEOPLE* Where is the nearest German post office?

Thank you! I am going to try that tomorrow. I'm being careful to check the services offered at each, as I need them to tell me the weight of the package (and respective postage cost).

Apparently, at some, you can just drop off (and that could be letter, parcels or both), at some you can buy stamps but not determine cost of postage, as examples. If you click the services link alongside each listed, you can see what they do (and don't do).

Sorry to be a pain - do you know the exact address on that street? Then, I can make sure to go to that one.

Re: *BASEL PEOPLE* Where is the nearest German post office?

I don't know if it's closer than Weil, but the Post in Lörrach is just opposite the station. In- and out in no time provided you check the opening hours (always tricky issue in Germany).

Re: *BASEL PEOPLE* Where is the nearest German post office?

The post office I went to at Weil am Rhein was on Hauptstrasse.

Over the bridge and instead of a left to the Marktkauf Center, make a right onto Hauptstrasse and walk about 3-4 blocks (5 minute walk). ON the right hand side inside an Apotheke. They have full service-- scale to weight parcels , etc..

Re: *BASEL PEOPLE* Where is the nearest German post office?

Thanks Cam.

I found this one, which is open for a long time on Saturdays, and is a big one:

Deutsche Post
Kaufring Kaufhaus
Rathausplatz 4
79576 Weil am Rhein, Germany

+49 180 2 3333

Opening from 8am to 7pm Mon to Sat, and very busy. It's easy to get anything additional you need there like envelopes, packaging etc as well. It's inside of a big shop called Reno (I think that's the name), on the left just after the roundabout and before Al Natura.

The others I tried near to the Rhein Centre were all closed and small.

Re: *BASEL PEOPLE* Where is the nearest German post office?

Just curious - are postal rates in Germany cheaper or similar to Swiss rates?

Re: *BASEL PEOPLE* Where is the nearest German post office?

I second that - MUCH cheaper. I was charged something like 25 CHF to send a birthday card with a tiny badge to the UK one time (and there was actually an even more expensive service I could have selected!), whereas a heavier package just cost me ~3 euros, including buying an envelope.

Re: Where is the nearest German post office to Basel?

Just to follow up on this topic, as a Swiss resident, when you mail something from Germany, what do you put for a return address?
...and if the package is lost or damaged, then how do you deal with that?

I put my swiss address. And if lost or damaged just claim from the post office providing you paid the extra though
