Heh. I don't hold the address format against her. It's more the butchering of the spelling of the country in which I currently reside.

And to answer A + B - No, and no. These were serious statements.
If serious so obviously under the pressure of emotions. So that you now know how much your parents love you and miss you when you are away

I had a friend who mistook Switzerland for Swaziland.

Yes, this is the real world.

Or as it happened to me in New York: "You are Portuguese? That's so cool, I've never been to Portuguese before..."
I can't remember the number of times when I told someone I was Portuguese they asked me if I speak Spanish. Of course I say yes... because I do....

A few years ago I was travelling in the US and someone asked me where I was from. When I told him I was Australian, he complimented me on my English.

But then again, maybe he knew fully well what he was doing ...
This one time, in the US, I went out for drinks with an Austrian girl. The door man asked what language her passport in. When she told him, he said he didn't know they spoke German in Australia.

This is correct for the next month or so. Ingvar Kamprad is due to relocate back to Sweden by the end of this year, now that his net wealth has officially been decimated (literally) from around $33 billion to something like $3 billion as a result of ceding the vast majority of his ownership of IKEA to his independent foundation -- so the tax implications of living in Sweden will be less dramatic than they were a decade or two ago.

Even people WITHOUT any knowledge of English know the term "Made in Switzerland"
Yes, so you'd think that people supposedly well-versed in English would be familiar with that as well. However, a Swiss friend of ours was corrected by the agent reviewing her paperwork when entering the US recently. She had written "Switzerland" for her country of citizenship. He told her she had misspelled it and that she had to correct it. To "Swisserland"! She started to explain but when the agent began to get aggravated she gave up and just crossed out the correct spelling and put Swisserland. Ye gods.

Tony Blair appears to not know the difference between Sweden and Switzerland. In a speech this morning he referred to Norway and Sweden as non-EU countries, but quickly corrected it to Norway and Switzerland

He is not the only one..though w/his political profile (low/high matter of opinion) it was an unfortunate slip. At the moment, UK politics is looking quite good if compared to Sweden where all is a shambles. Particularly relevant is the EU and policies on immigration/asylum seekers - the current situation in Sweden with EU migrants would not necessarily support Blair's political campaigning.

Off-topic but relevant to geography knowledge of the avg call-centre employee -
(Within the last year I have changed a mailing address from UK to Sweden, that ended up as CH on the database that obviously didn't match with the postcodes. Found this out after repeated failed attempts to use a bank card. I changed another from UK to CH, that was translated to Afghanistan...found this out when I rang to inquire where my post was - guess it was an exciting day in the desert)

The American immigration service or whatever they are called (I can think of a few suggestions too) code the united kingdom "GB" and take great pleasure in correcting you if you put "UK" as that apparently is the code for Ukraine. And being Americans I guess that they cannot tell a British accent from a Ukrainian one. To make it better, customs or some other equally efficient department use "UK" for the UK just to keep you guessing when you fill out the US governments famously well designed forms.

Ok, I am getting angry writing this, total bunch of autocratic arsemuppets. NSA on the other hand, we love you guys, nothing to see here...,
I remember a few years filling in on one of their forms, and under Nationality: British, which is what it says on my passport. The idiot at the immigration desk crossed it out and wrote "English". I restrained myself from saying "You're lucky I'm not a Scotsman"

Yup, that's what my dad called "Eidgenossen mit oder ohne Schaft."
