Splendid times nowadays for kids ! I remember how in the 50ies and 60ies, the only radio thing for children was on Radio DRS between 5 and 6 pm the (exceedingly boring) "Kinderstunde" and advanced teenagers up from 1963 could get, over Longwaves, between 4 and 6 pm the "Salut les Copains" from Paris with modern music (Rock-n-Roll in its Beat variant, Jazz and Country&Western. Hick-up was that the talkative French very often started talking right in the middle of a piece of music. But without alternative, what could you do ? Only very few people before about 1967 had TV, and then, you in Zürich could only get TV-DRS and ARD until in 1969, ZDF came into the play as nr 3 . Private radio was not allowed deep into the 1970ies

Re: Television

Nick Jr and some of the kids channels on cable offer them in English if you know how to switch the language with your remote. Otherwise, Hulu and Netflix are great if you have an anonymous US proxy.

Re: Television

CBeebies (which as mentioned is on BBC4 during daytime) is also on Zattoo if you have a Smart TV or can connect your TV to a computer, if you can't access BBC 4.
