Hello everyone,

I`m a 23 year old student from Southern California taking a semester off to live/ work in Switzerland.
I`ve been living in Wollerau for one month exactly with my boyfriend and working in Samstagern. Before I got here I was studying/partying in Spain for four months. Unlike other places, its seems rather difficult to meet people here. I`m feeling really homesick and lonely since I haven`t made any friends yet. I`ve gone to a Toastmasters and Professional Woman`s Group meetings, but truthfully I would like to meet fun people that I can go out with and get to know Switzerland with-people I can related to. I`m open to meeting Swiss people and English speaking foreigners like myself.

So, how do I meet fun people closer to my age (23-30)? I`m more than willing to go to Zug, Zürich, etc.

sundays there is a open mic night organized by brandy from phillie in zürich. alway wanted to go once, missed it a couple of times. shes a good singer and a nice girl, as far as i can tell from bling nights. occasions to be found in social events calendar...

Of course I have checked the social threads, but I`m a bit nervous about going to these things with everyone knowing everyone. Also, sinces its winter I`ve been snowboarding every weekend with my bf. I`ll definitely get brave and go to something.

You'll be pleased to learn that your anxiety is unfounded. There are new people coming out to these social events all the time, so the phrase 'everyone knowing everyone' hardly applies, and the regulars are such a friendly and welcoming bunch that you have no reason to feel intimidated. To give an example, I live in Lausanne but decided to attend the Zurich Christmas party this year, and I had a blast even though I hardly knew anyone there. Turns out that those folks 'on the German side' are alright after all.

But seriously. I think you have nothing to lose and a lot gain by going out with the group at least once.

and, as the above poster said, there are always new people around and after 30min it feels like you ever belonged to the bunch...you'll see.
