| | | General Hairdresser / Barber thread, Zurich region
I know there was a previous thread started on hairdressers, but I'm not looking for a hairdresser, just someone who can give me a buzz - typically called a barber where I come from. (#3 on top and #2 on the sides.) I've looked around my local area and 40 CHF plus seems to be the norm which just seem ludicrous to me. I'm going to the States in September and will definitely be picking up my clippers. Until then, does anyone know somewhere where I can get a simple cheap cut? I'm even open to someone else doing it in exchange for a drink at one of our next meetups. Any takers?

After much Barber-searching in this city (ZH), I conclude that it is difficult to find a "normal" back-and-sides job for under CHF 50.
Coming from Cologne, where the above costs EUR 11 with a smile, this place as with everything else is overpriced.
Not wanting big breasts and / or luscious hind quarters as an extra and paying CHF +70, I have found a place in Enge that does a cut for CHF 50.
My € 0.02

I know a place near Zolstrasse where you get an Haircut for 25 Fr. Decent place.

Don't know if they do this in Zürich, but in Lucerne there are some places that will charge you half the price if you let the apprentice cut your hair. They usually do a good enough job.

Check out:
Lona Stauffiger
Coiffeurgeschäft
Neumarkt 8, 8001 Zürich/ZH
044 251 37 70 http://map.search.ch/8001-zuerich/neumarkt-8
A basic hair cut is CHF 18. The place has been around for ages (and looks it!). It is just down the road from the Oliver Twist if you have to wait for your turn (usually no booking necessary).

You cut your cloth to suit your needs of course, but I would say that place is good only for an adventure.
Anywhere in the Langstrasse area will provide a 'decent', ie not Tintin, cut for around 25chf. Take your pick: there's Turkish, Croatian, Tamil... depending on the time of day you'll also have a good chat with the crew there. I always go to the Tamil fellas, 'cause they speak English and offer PG Tips. My German is good enough, but no matter how much money I spend in a Coiffeur, no matter how fancy the pants, I always wonder where the HELL they learnt to cut hair.
(If you're in ZH and DO fancy fancy pants, go to Zelo on Seefeldstr, corner of Fröhlichstr. That's about 75chf for men, plus good Lavazza)

I went to the place in Oerlikon this weekend and got the apprectice haircut. It saved a few chuffs (it still cost 30!), but she wasn't allowed to use the shaver yet. It took ages!
Oh well. Cute though.

I'm using RELAX Hairdressers, corner Kanzleistr & Zypressenstr, 8004 Zurich. Young guys, a Turk and a Syrian. They do mens haicuts for chf25-, I'm sure a buzzcut is well within their capabilities.
Usual tricks for Zurich, dont say yes to the extras like washing, gel etc as they are all add ons, take something to read while you wait. Oh and dont fear the flaming alcohol soaked cotten bud on the stick. It's a secret middle eastern method for de-furring ears |

One more...
I use Hair Studio Hirano at Schaffhauserstrasse 122 (tram 14 or 7 at Guggachstrasse). Very reasonable (CHF 40), very professional, speaks english if necessary, fluent in Japanese if you're looking for a challenge...

I used to go to Branko, a trad barber between Binz station and Mannesseplatz on S10 . He has been there about 500years , speaks no English but does a precise haircut that I've never had before or since. I cant remember how much but it was less than 40chf.

Nice neighborhood. Recommended.

I can't remember the name of the place, but it's next to the Frölichstrasse tram stop (heading to Bahnhof Tiefenbrunnen). He charges CHF28, no wash. He doesn't speak English - I asked him and his reply was "Ich bin Schweizer!"

SO, I NEED to find a salon in the Zurich area where they cut Afro-hair types. I have looked on google but of course I could not find anything. Does anyone on this board know such a hair salon I could find. I would be too grateful!

I've merged your thread back into it. Hint: try the search function before posting a new thread!
There are plenty of places that cut afro-hair types in Zurich - your best bet would be to head to the areas which have plenty of foreigners like Langstrasse, Kreis 4/5 etc. I can't give you specific recommendations since I don't have this type of hair - but I'm sure other forum members might be able to help.

Saleh is Josefstr. 141 (near langstrasse) is unbeatable - great service, great prices (22 CHF).
DIY fans: keep an eye out for specials in interdiscount - I bought a clipping machine from them years ago, and it's still going strong (when I'm too lazy to make the trip to Saleh)

| | | [Haircut] Seek English-speaking Hairdresser/stylist/barber
Hey all,
This is extremely vain of me , but I've been here 5 months now and really could do with a haircut.. I've been back to England a few times since then and had it done then but its time to take the plunge and find somewhere here. I've been too scared to risk somebody with a poor grasp of English in case I end up with a skinhead or something even worse.
I live in Basel but I'm willing to travel up to Zurich or places close by.
Any help would be appreciated | |
