National Lottery

I cannot find any info on the workings of the national lottery in Switzerland. Can anybody explain it to me or point me at a website? I would like to know where tickets are bought, how much they cost, how long are they valid for, how often there's a draw, where you find the results, where you claim your winnings, etc. And of course, has anybody won big yet?

Re: National Lottery

Go to the kiosk, take a lotto ticket and mark six numbers each in at least the two fields in the most left column. (Last time I played you had to make at least two bets at 1.50 Fr. each).

There's a box for two additional Joker games that involve pre-printed numbers, and the possibility (or is it included in the price?) of playing with a bonus number (Zusatzzahl) that will increase your profit if you have 5 numbers right. But you can ignore this for now.

Then go to the kiosk and pay. There's also a row of boxes that you can tick if you wish to play with the same tip several drawings in a row.

The drawing is each Wednesday and Saturday. The results are practically everywhere in Teletext, newspapers, the internet and the drawing is shown live on TV.

Winnings up to 50 Fr. and often up to 1000 Fr. can be claimed at the kiosk. For big winnings you have to get in contact with Swissloto (or Lotterie Romande) yourself.

In the long run 50% of the bets are given back to the players but depending on the last few drawings, there may be less or more to be won with 5, 5+Bonus or 6 right tips. The winnings for 3 and 4 right guesses are constant (6 Fr. and 50 Fr.)

Re: National Lottery

Nathu is correct that you must do at least two lines : and they must be the two leftmost (on the paper - one above, one below)

and if you can't decide which numbers to select, then you can ask for the computer to pick some for you.

I buy one once every couple of months (3CHF worth) and have won ten francs a couple of times..

It may (therefore) be more efficient in terms of time to simply flush a 10CHF note down the pan once a month! (or give it to a homeless person).

While we are on the subject of lottery, for anyone that flys Ryanair, please note that you are not elegible to enter the ryanair scratchcard lottery unless you are normally resident in an EU country. Unfortunately the Mini Cooper S had to go back....

Re: National Lottery

Maybe they'll make a Generalabonnement the first prize next time if we ask nicely.

I decided to try my luck and see if I still can fill out a ticket correctly. There's now a new thing called rePLAY which is a 1 in 11 chance that one can use the spent money for another guess. I also chose the Joker option where winnings depend on how many figures of a 6-figure-number you get right, starting at the rightmost figure. All in all it still was easier than my tax declaration.

The Joker Jackpot is a measly 180k so I'm focusing on the lottery Jackpot which at the moment is 800k...

And here is my bet. I hope you share my excitement and are thankful for this "free trial".

Re: National Lottery

Can somebody tell me what's the big deal about the lottery here? Every time I go to Balexair (shopping center in Geneva), the lottery kiosk has tons of people. Why is it so popular? I've played the lottery in the US before and you just go, pick ur #s, pay your dollar and walk away. Here it seems to be an event. Can someone explain?

Simple, from nothing - you will receive nothing. The Swiss have several "Lotteries" that run throughout the year. Swiss Lotto, Euro Millions, Million Ticket (in December) and various set-price scratch-offs.

If the Lotto system has paid off or not (for me)?... yes. The Lotto has padded my billfold a couple times. Plus the "Benissimo" tear-n-tear or tear-n-jump up and down(!) has seriously paid off.

My bet for the best pay off goes to the casino. The local B-rated (non grand casino) is in Bad Ragaz and has brought the best winnings for me. Benissimo a real close second.

I mean, with some luck of course, 20 Franks turns into 2000 in two minutes. Better yet, 10 into 5000 in seconds. Again, luck is the name of the game.

Play - grab a Benissimo or drop your six numbers on the Lotto ticket, it doesn't cost that much and is a bit of fun and excitement.

Good luck!
