NEEDED: US Letter Sized Paper...

It's tax time again and just remembered that the IRS requires "US Letter" sized paper. Tried using A4 once and it was rejected.

So... I've looked far and wide in Zurich/Luzern area and haven't found anything and am thus appealing to anyone nearby that may have a stash of it they are willing to part with.

QUESTION: Does anyone here have a stock of American size, 8 by 11 inches (215.9 mm 279.4 mm) paper that they are willing to part with?

Please post here or PM me if you do.

Rgds...

- John

ps: I've already digested the appropriate archive posts regarding this topic and still come up empty. I also agree that the US is archaic and needs to go metric but that probably won't happen in our lifetimes. Thus any help appreciated !

Re: NEEDED: US Letter Sized Paper...

If you are stuck (or for someone else in the future if they come back to this thread), you can go to a printing shop and buy A3 sheets (2 x A4 or 11.7 x 16.5 inches) and have them cut down to 8 1/2 x 11 inches.

Should not cost too much for the number of pages you will need.

Might the issue be the scale? Print scaled to letter sized but on a4.

No, they are serious on that.

Yes I did, but last time I filed they still sent the forms in the mail.

So, tell them if they want forms in Letter size, they will have to mail them to you!

It tried to say: Maybe you did not file accroding to what the IRS's definition of filing is. You know what I mean... Using the wrong size of forms.

You can you idle an amercian for days? Tell him to cut legal sized paper from A4 using scissors.

PS: For those who like to order the forms.

Not sure where that comes from. Been filing and sending on A4 for years without incident.

Re: NEEDED: US Letter Sized Paper...

Problem solved.

I was able to find a Copy Center in Zug that cut A3 paper down to size for me.

CopyCenter
Dammstrasse 18
6300 Zug
041-724-2159

Cost was 8chf for 200 sheets. Thus I have extra if anyone else here needs some.

Rgds...

Re: NEEDED: US Letter Sized Paper...

It's amazing that the Americans landed on the moon really.

I remember the days of paper sizes with all different names: Foolscap, Quarto, Ledger, Double Elephant and so on. Each paper size had its own weight of course so it took years of experience to know what any given paper was. It seems that the US Inland Revenue want paper 003" thick, regardless of weight apparently - quite a problem if you have a ream of paper and a ruler and then have to divide the ream's thickness by 500 to know what the thickness of a single sheet is...

As I said... the moon...

Fair enough. But it is obviously a rule that is rarely enforced if ever, in my experience. They have accepted these filings from me and many others.

It is also a rule that probably cannot be enforced with any consistency, rest of world basically uses A4, and this would require IRS sending back via international mail, nearly all forms sent from abroad.

For those looking in the future, you can buy or order this paper
Plano Dynamic Photocopier paper US Letter

It looks like an online store called Schoch sells a box of 2500 sheets for about 50 CHF.
