I would have thought shopping in France might not be so clever, what happens when all your village shops close down & you no longer able to climb into the Discovery to go shopping in the winter.

Trains booked in advance are very cheap in the UK, it's just not subsidised as much as the Swiss railway system.
Swiss railways are extortionate without a half price card and expensive with.

Busses still running, it's actually easy to travel as so many people take the day off work

I'm looking to spend a day in London and was checking for day passes and an offpeak pass for zone 1-6 in London is only 9 for the day or something.

Thats OFF PEAK, buy an oyster card it's even less.
To put this in perspective a 1 week Malta Buss pass 6 Euro is cheaper than a single ticket from Zurich Airport to ZHB.

Off peak covers Saturday and it's a Saturday I'm there. So perfect

To be honest the whole system confuses me somewhat. Will work it out on the day

Again you're so into the specifics of one case that you're completely missing the point: at a pharmacist's shop in the centre of a Swiss city, a product is almost ten times the price of the identical product at the Migros or Lidl or whatever up the hill.

Naturally, I shan't buy that product from that pharmacist's shop again, but that's hardly the point. How on earth can any consumer justify a business taking the piss out of its customers to such an extreme extent? There's simply no good reason for it.
Convenience. See also: drinks in restaurants. (In fact see also: restaurants in general.)

Ok course teachers in CH get paid very well, no justification other that's how it's always been. Sometimes it's better to just go with the flow & enjoy life

No, it's the teachers in other countries who are paid very badly.

What are other people for, here, if they don't consider CH to be a win for their life or career, in general?
The motorcycling, food, wine, etc.

Career wise, and money wise, it would have been better to stay in the US.

Really??

I'd say they were perfectly reasonable - easy to understand and hugely flexible.

If you want to go from Geneva to Chur - and only do that - you can buy that ticket - at a single price - and know that is the price.

In the UK, in order to get the best price, you'd buy a peak saver return from Geneva to Lausanne, then, because you are now off-peak, an off-peak supersaver return to Ziegelbrucke, and then a supersaver regional special offer return from there to Chur.

And the train would be late and you'd miss your connection in Zurich!!

What I don't get is why people worry about prices...you earn way more here than in UK, your apartment is better quality then anything of similar price in London, there are mountains and skiing on your door step, you can be in Italy/Germany/France/Austria within an hour or two, you never queue for bags at the airport..Switzerland rocks and we're all lucky to live here. ps: Mars bars and fizzy drinks are bad for you.

London is the only place to live in the UK. The rest of the country is an uninhabitable nuclear wasteland.
