Wow, all the luxuries.
If it's not a personal question, which bit did you consider to be the luxury item?

With assembly, definitely not. But while I'm not 100% sure about Eastern Europe, for basic components Switzerland has some of the cheapest prices west of Poland. Tell them to give toppreise.ch a look.

A little investigating reveals that it's cheaper here. For Porsch's hard drive for example:

In CH: http://www.toppreise.ch/prod_308056.html
In CZ: http://www.alza.cz/crucial-m500-240gb-7mm-d404328.htm

111 CHF vs approx. 130 CHF (with tax). Not much, but worth it for people who import en masse.

I know that whenever I travel and look at prices of computers, DVD players, etc. I'm always disappointed and find I can get better prices walking distance from home.
It's good to know..Bros have hard time finding some components, higher end stuff, I know it would be easier here even if the price is almost the same. I will direct them to topreise, thanks. Par contre, the choice of cells and tabs is much better at home, they eye balled mine and wanted immediately erase what's on it and load it with "better" software..like I care really, it's a waste on me. But diff hardware components here seem to be more available, faster delivery. We no.1 in Europe with no. of cells per capita, it's sad. I do switch to local network when there for data transfer, which is slower but so much cheaper than Swisscom roaming charges (totally Switzerlanded).

The 250meg internet. Buttsex is an essential, not a luxury.

CHF 60/kg for Appenzeller Classic!

And, oddly enough, the same price for Surchoix and Extra.

Wait, Stockholm's NOT in Switzerland?

Actually, I was quite tempted to buy a can of surstroemming, until I remembered that I still have two cans in the fridge!

In case you have trouble off-loading those, or one would be MORE than enough, I recently discovered that my son has never been privilege to this native delicacy. I'm hoping his farmor will fill this gap in his culinary heritage mid August when the crawfish get smart and start hiding, but if he likes it I woukd be saved the risk of importing it in my suitcase...and its not the Swiss toll I'm concerned about

In case you're homesick, although this time of year I'd find a nice place by the water with a woolen blanket.

Imagine item X gets launched for CHF1000 but after few months starts selling everywhere for CHF700.

Shop "Fool you always" says they are offering a huge discount of 20% on the item and selling it for CHF800 only. Now that my friend is getting Switzerlanded

Yeah, I left Zurich where I had 100MB and prices kept falling (the ONLY bargain in the country) for Spain where I get 2-3MB. And I am not in "buttsex nowhwere." Well, I am in Sitges! ;-)

But they are finally installing fiber and hope to have it this year! Hallelujah!

Negatron. I think the maximum speed you can get is 100meg in select areas. Here I live in the middle of buttsex nowhere and can get 250meg.

I know my parents place which is probably less rural than where I am now doesn't have more than 2 meg. It's painful

Was in Barcelona for a week back in 2001, and about 4 times in Sitges. Loved the beach and the two beach bars and the superb red wines

What a nice place !

Re: You've been Switzerlanded - what does it mean for you?

A year in Switzerland but this country still have surprises. My 9 years old son couldn´t see Spiderman 2 in Zürich because film is not allowed for children under 12 years. In the same network cinema in Schaffhausen thare is no that kind restriction. Rules for rules not for people.

AMAG changing the back door lock on my Audi, charged 600, I notice it is still not working, then realise they changed the RIGHT one instead of the LEFT one, told them, they changed the left one, charged 600 again, and told me to pay both because I miscommunicated.

Re: You've been Switzerlanded - what does it mean for you?

the "made in switzerland" imprint on a coke bottle is the biggest switzerlanded joke ever made! so blowing a thing up in price/meaning/"quality" because of that means switzerlanded to me.

Re: You've been Switzerlanded - what does it mean for you?

I looked at the first post in this thread by Sean Connery, and just out of curiosity I decided to check out the web site for the Foxtown mall. Anyway, one of the ads on the site was for a store that seemed very familiar, and yet was nothing like what I expected---Ro˙ Roger's.

Most of the people on this thread are Europeans or at least have lived in Switzerland for a while, so you are already familiar with this jeans/clothing store. But I wonder if there's a whole new meaning to "Switzerlanded" for the American who walks into Ro˙ Roger's and expects to buy a hamburger and add a lot of toppings at the fixings bar?
