Good Friday - Shops open or not

Are the shops open tomorrow? Good Friday. I know that it is probably canton specific but any pointers to business hours would be appreciated, if shops aren't closed.

This applies in Zürich as well .... with the exception of the main train station and the airport shopping center

Re: Good Friday - Shops open or not

It's all in the planning... I've just had to fight my way around Coop in Zug for a bit of lunch and something for tonight and Friday's dinner. The way people are barging overfilled trolleys around, you would think we were expecting a siege lasting 6 weeks!

Err... are we?

Re: Good Friday - Shops open or not

The Migros opposite us was open from 7:30 this morning so I nipped in and did the weekend shop before going to work. The place was empty and I got around in about 20 minutes including paying at the till.

Cheers,
Nick

Re: Good Friday - Shops open or not

As far as I know, the protestant Cantons (ZH, AG, BS, BL etc.) have Good Friday as a public holiday as well as Easter Monday. The Tessin (catholic) is open tomorrow, but is closed on Monday. Probably most of the other catholic Cantons (LU, AI, SG) will be open tomorrow too.

You can check on the public holidays in your Canton here:

Re: Good Friday - Shops open or not

If you go to the Coop or Migros websites and put in the postcode of your local shop, they give the opening times for today (Gründonnerstag)
http://standorte.coop.ch/standorte/supermarketSearch.do

http://www.migros.ch/DE/Regionen/Zue...n/Zuerich.aspx (enter you post code in the filialsuche box)

Most of my local ones are open until 1800 which is a turn up for the books! thought they closed at 1600

Everything's closed on Good Friday - usually even gas-stations. No need to go shopping for me, though - Easter is worse than Christmas this year in terms of feasting. We're invited on Friday, Saturday and Sunday :-)

Shops will also be a total nightmare on Saturday. I've found that Easter Saturday shopping compare with the days before Christmas .

Yuck. The shops are always bad on Saturdays, let alone Easter Sunday. Maybe the bad weather will chase a few people away.
