Hobbies and past-times in CH

Hi,
I am interested to find out what you guys and gals are doing in your free time in Switzerland, besides being online.

There are some things which I could not do in my home country but they are quite easily available here.

Let me list some of the hobbies / pasttimes which I would otherwise not be able to do:

1. Skiing / snowboarding (snow sports)
2. Hiking in the mountains (actually I don't do this often)
3. Aeroplane modelling and flying (built my paraglider but yet to fly it)
4. Having a motorbike as a weekend hobby and not as a mode of transport
5. Shooting a pistol at a range / I even tried a shotgun too, and an Uzi.
6. Go-karting with real nice race karts instead of lawnmowers with 4 wheels
7. Mountain biking and road cycling (safe here)

I am also considering:
1. Paragliding
2. Airplane flying (heard it is about 10kchf for summer course)
3. Motorcross "racing"
4. Road racing (bike or car on tracks in nearby Germany)

Can some of you add to this list?

HAT

My hobby is the international 500cc championship but I do sometimes participate in the 330cc masters. The training is hard but the end results make it worthwhile.

Re: Hobbies and past-times in CH

Drinking in pubs, and impressing people with my English skills.

I'm not sure there's anything extra here I couldn't actually do before I came to Switzerland though, apart from watching live football during the daytime.

(i'm differentiating between activities and simply travelling to places)

Hi
This 500cc Championship is worldwide but does differ from country to country in England it’s the 568cc championship. I believe according to the Oxford dictionary – 568c championship is similar to the Ladies 284cc, Participants stand at a horizontal hard surface (know as the Bar) the participants must raise a vessel of 568cc alcoholic fluid (with or without handle is optional) to just above chin height the tilt the vessel towards the mouth. This is carried out with the participants emptying as many 568cc vessels before falling over. The last one standing is declared the winner. There are several other versions, one is sitting at a table and another I heard about involved talking to the opposite sex and trying to make them laugh.

DanielL seems to be a profi at this sport

Re: Hobbies and past-times in CH

I'm also interested in paragliding. A couple of weeks ago I walking in Beatenberg (not sure of the spelling) and observed a constant stream of paragliders decending into the valley below. When I returned to the village to catch the bus back to Interlaken West, I noticed a couple of people carriers, with "Tandem Paragliding" advertised on the sides. I'm thinking of giving this a go ... perhaps we could organise a group thing through this forum?

Smoke and drink and read and smoke and drink and read. Some broadband spanking, but mainly smoke and drink and read.................
Things that we can do here, but couldn't in Bangkok include walking to places, using duvets and recycling. Wearing boots and socks and vests. Using public transport. Different life altogether

Heya

Horse riding, yes its something I could do back home but the nearness of the countryside with many many lovely riding trails is certainly different from Melbourne. Love it!! Except in Winter - bloody hard to motivate onesself when the Temperature is anything below 5 degrees

Enjoy

Have any of you expats tried ski jumping?

How was it? Briefly considered trying it with a mate once, but then someone on TV had quite a bad accident and plans were shelved.

I once did a one week getting-to-know-it week in Klosters, where at the end I got to fly alone from the Gotschna down to Klosters, that was pretty awesome. But since I'm not exactly living in the alps and it was quite expensive I decided to not make the permit.

I will go for another tandem flight in Grindelwald next year, though

Apart from that, my 'main' hobby is playing floorball (not really successfully but it's fun)

I'm going to be attending a taster session with Pays Nature in Chaux Neuve, France.

Wish me luck!!!
