In an effort to find some more threads at the Strellson outlet centre, I found the following website which lists the outlets in Germany and Switzerland and has customer reviews ...

I am going to bump this up, as I would like people to add their experiences of shopping at these outlet stores. As they are destination shops, some reviews can go a long way to save a trip...
Mods: feel free to merge this thread with something relevant like flowing turquoise /pink chiffon draped loosely over a black tunic.

For clothes, I cannot hesitate to recommend Fox Town in Mendrisio. Well-deserving of those stars |

Well-deserving of those stars | | | | | It must be a lot better than the Foxtown in Zürich (Rümlang) then? There wasn't really that much of interest when I went there last year. The depressing location probably doesn't help. Maybe they've even closed, I don't see it on the webpage anymore. http://www.foxtown.ch |

The best thing about that was that you don't have far to go to the karting track |

I have been to the Boss factory in Metzingen on about a dozen occasions over the past six years. In general I would give it very high marks, especially for business clothing (normal and casual business dress). If you are looking for a suit or an overcoat you will always find something at a very good discount to normal price and they have a very large selection (i.e. thousands of suits).
The women's department has grown in past years and now rivals the men's for selection.
As for Metzingen as a destination, it is less than 250 kms from Zurich and there are shops there for everyone's taste. Highly recommended.

Thanks for info. It is very helpful!
I actually agree with Lob. I'd like to recommend FoxTown Mendrisio. This is a nice factory outlet for designer brand clothes- especially for Italian brands. They are not much outdated- 1-2 seasons before and quite many selections to be around. Price is reasonable.
FYI_
and more outlets in northern Italy,
1. McArthurGlen- approx.1 hr from Milano
Via della Moda 1, 15069 Serravalle Scrivia http://www.mcarthurglen.it/corporate/home/home.php
2. Emporiaisola- in Milano
V.G. Prina 11, 20154 Milano
3. Maxicollection- in Milano http://www.maxicollection.com/englis...php?IDLINGUA=2
in France
1. La Vallee - approx. 30 mins from Paris http://www.maxicollection.com/englis...php?IDLINGUA=2

For those in the Basel area there is a shop in the centre of Liestal called 'Butlers' which, although not an outlet store per se, stocks a lot of reduced price Boss clothing for chaps!

Hi,
I have been looking through the different threads for outlets but didnt seem to find something specifically for sports clothing around Zurich or Winterthur. Anybody with suggestions?
Thanks,

There is also a very nice outlet in Northern Italycalled Serravalle, its on the main highway between Genoa and Milan (under 4 hours drive from Zurich if you don't hit the Gothard tunnel with a long delay. nice mix of high end (Prada, Armani) with reasonable and even US brands like Tommy Hilfinger. Its a large complex, depending on your time you can make a whole day of it, also across the street is a huge sporting good superstore with prices much better than Swiss staples, even with the Euro up right now.

Having said that, the clothes I got at the weekend were excellently-priced. If they were not, I surely would not have bought them |

Foxtown in Rümlang has closed a few months ago I found out yesterday.
There is now a branch of the so-called Airport Outlet Center.
They mostly have sport goods (Oakley, O'Neill), travel bags (nothing exciting though), men's shirts/suits (nondescript quality imo), there's quite a big shop from S. Oliver for women. The highlight was the wine outlet (didn't even know these existed) shop from Zweifel.
The big Coop at the ground floor, which is not at all busy is the only reason to go to Rümlang imo, and the in this thread mentioned nearby indoor go-kart (haven't been there yet though).

thanks | | | | | Metzingen is in the AH of nowhere - Stuttgart and a regional train to Reutlingen and another regional to Metzingen - Or maybe you might get one at Horb - whatever pain in the ass
Otherwise Autobahn Stuttgart - Reutlingen - Metzingen 2.5 hours, or so.

i used to live in Berlin, there's a factory outlet called B5 brandenburg (1hr with the RE from Zoo station to Wustermark, followed by bus to Elstal DEMEX Park). highlights include very large Nike, Adidas, Mango, tommy and leather jackets outlets. smaller birkenstock, levi's, Aigner shops. did not notice Boss or Joop!, but you can get those labels from Metzingen. Hugo Boss at Metzingen is most definitely the main event. business shirts start from 40eur. (marked down from 90eur, allegedly). also oakley, levi's, Joop! and polo ralph. definitely worth the trip, although you can expect quite a crowd on Saturdays.
if i'm not mistaken, there's a lange nacht der shopping twice a year in Berlin (and maybe german) on the day when there's a "clock change" (zeitumstellung) and shops stay open til 12am. end of (summer/winter) season sales happen twice a year (july/jan) and turn ordinary law-abiding citizens into frenzied shoppers on the Berlin Ku'damm. therefore, Caveat Emptor!
