I've done a search but haven't been able to find the names of good shopping towns across the border from Basel. Essentially I'm looking to do a little bit of clothes/trainers/computer peripheral shopping and perhaps stop by a good supermarket on my way back.

I've already done Strasbourg and Mulhouse on the French side, so wondering what there is on the German side. I am more interested in choice than price, plus want to give my car a good run after sitting idle for the last two weeks.

Well, if you're willing to go to Strasbourg then Freiburg on the German side is well within reach.

Tip: If the weather is nice go to the Beer Garden at the top of the hill that overlooks the town. For the life of me I can't remember the name, but really nice.

A bit further afoot, but Metzingen is what you are after.
