There was a recent article in a Romandie consumer magazine about the 'true' cost of leasing- and the extortionate penalties and charges if you want to return a car early- with the strict advice that if you think you may, for whatever reason, return car early- NOT NOT NOT to go ahead. Same for very expensive phones almost 'given' away with contracts (as one of our daughters found out when she had to leave Spain unexpectedly- ouch). So perhaps not so much to do with you being Jony Furiner.

Good on you for fighting them- at least you are rid now.
As I mentioned previously - I have handed 2 cars back early (as opposed to part-exchanging) - and in both cases received zero cost bills (apart from the work to re-mount the original exhaust - agreed upon). The key is ensuring the car is handed back in tip top condition - and give the dealer nothing to fight about.

Saying that, one dealer was one I was on my second car from (and would go back again); and the second dealer was one I had agreed to spend vast amounts with.

Re: Anyone handed a lease car back? info needed

There are a few reasons why they are trying to screw me

Firstly bmw reduced the price of minis by 20% about a week after we picked it up, it's also a cooper s which has a common engine fault resulting in a blown engine (ours went within 2 years) and they replaced it but with the design fault still in it, and lastly the new version came out about a month before we handed it back, so they have lost out 3 ways on the car, the buyout price was way more then the car was worth, it's an old model, and anyone who does even a quick lookup on that model will see not to touch one with a barge pole

Re: Anyone handed a lease car back? info needed

another email to all the top dudes at the dealership, and another result

The old new invoice listed over 1k on 'paint' so I asked them to break that down as they had already had 2k in 'paint' from the insurance company

I also pointed out again that the fog light where a warranty repair, it had been pre.approved by bmw and they had the car before the warranty ran out.

So today I got yet another revised bill

Tyres are gone
fog lights are gone
700 chf of 'paint' has gone, now they have broken it down to 362chf for 1 alloy wheel refurb (yes I curbed 1 wheel )

I dread to think how many people they try this on with, and how many just pay, that's 2k saved with just a few emails and asking for proof.

I realize that it's no help to you at all at this point, but maybe it's helpful to someone else. I had all four of my 20" alloys refurbed over the border in Germany for less than they charged you for one. It was between EUR40-60 per corner, depending on how damaged they were.

Made the car look brand new again!

Cutting-and-pasting from an earlier thread:

I'm not sure if it's any help, but I had my wheels professional repaired and re-sprayed at a garage over the border in Germany. The cost was between EUR40-60 per wheel, depending on the damage (20" wheels).

The wheels look fanastic.

Yes, please post the details. I have 18" and 17"(winter alloys) and by the time we turn this car back in, i think we'll need all the alloys refurbished.

Ok, thanks for posting!

Re: Anyone handed a lease car back? info needed

Would much appreciate any input.

My three year lease ends in March. Only done 12 km vs 30 km in agreement
End of lease VW Golf 1.4 TSI Team inc NAV parking assist etc Metallic Grey

Just went to the dealer to see the form for handing car back/ buying out keeping or reselling. Lease buyout is CHF 17,200.

Is it right that if I just hand the car back I have to pay for them to get the three year MOT equivalent done CHF 300. Car has been in a garage and even they said looks like new but they want to charge CHF 200 for the only mark which is a parking tiny dent?
Out of interest if I had done 31 km presumably they would be eagerly billing me, other than buying and reselling would it be unreasonable to ask them to offset for the low mileage vs the above two?

thanks
