The West has not done anything but look after itself. The immigrants are here because the West needs them. There are things they can do that not enough locals do. You'll see this in Zuerich, and how foreigners take up positions that they can't get locals to fill. Many of them at a higher salary than what they average local makes. Some at much lower salaries for jobs that average locals do not want to do.

There is not much of a local culture to take in. The food is bland, the people are cold, unimaginative, closed up and not welcoming. Coming from a culture with much more color, flavor, interaction and soul; why would anyone trade that in for the local culture? That is not much of a value proposition.

As you ask why foreigners are in the West, you'll find your answer when you ask why Corporations are out there.

But I can understand why when you feel like you are losing, you might want to tilt the table and change the rules. Its the typical reaction of the anti-social.
I've already pointed out that I am not against immigration but in favour of selective immigration. Food, culture, taste - this is down to personal preference if you're capable of thinking and choosing for yourself and not a trend follower. Generally many find the food they grew up with and that their mother fed them to be the most comforting and their favorite. Some may disagree. By the way, the same goes for the weather. Europeans dream of sun but I know many European expats who having spent a few years out here in the tropics miss the seasons of Europe.

I'm also in favor of selective immigration. I think Switzerland needs to be managed the way an agile corporation is managed. If you look at the size of Switzerland (8,000,000) vs. the size of China (1,357,000,000), 0.5% its size, its a marvel we'll be able to compete. The only way I can see us competing is on scalable quality and values, not scalable quantity. For that, we need top-notch talent and brains, and very shrewd and intelligent moves in the market.

As for opening the doors of immigration to anyone who simply wants to, without weighing out the relevance of that person to Swiss National interest would be idiotic and suicidal.

OfficeGirl, I'm not sure why are you groaning to every post that criticise or that don't agree with you arguments? People do want to engage with discussions here. Unless you're only trolling. If so, I don't see any point in participating on this thread anymore.

@FuriousRose - I like expressive debate and since we can't all sit in parliament, I have to make do with the forum's limited means for expression !!

By the way, here is what Lee Kuan Yew said about Islam:-

"I have to speak candidly to be of value, but I do not want to offend the Muslim community... I think we were progressing very nicely until the surge of Islam came, and if you asked me for my observations, the other communities have easier integration – friends, inter-marriages and so on – than Muslims... I would say, today, we can integrate all religions and races, except Islam." (Excerpt from his book Hard Truths: to keep Singapore Going")

You know, there are plenty of other threads on this topic. Too much, to be honest. I suggest you post such things there rather than here. Your thread here is flailing around like a garden hose as it is.

If you insist, I am cutting off and declaring you a troll.

Re: London vs Zurich

Well you must have found it engaging enough since you participated in it. Don't you think it's a more natural style of debate and conversation rather than to stick to one topic of conversation in a sterile like fashion? By the way, it all started because I said that Singapore is an awful place to date and I was challenged on this.

Anyway at the moment some of you may be relieved to hear that the odds are favoring London (due to reasons beyond my control before anyone starts lambasting me)!

@Phos - having personal preferences as to what physical (and other non physical) features you would like your ideal partner to have is not racist.

By the way, I've met plenty of people who have said to me (usually one to one due to political correctness and fear of being seen as racist): I don't like girls/guys who are xxxxx (insert race) and i'm not a fan of girls/guys who are xxxx (insert race). I've already pointed out that OK Cupid has done a survey on this that shows just what I-m saying - people of different ethnicities are not equally attracted to the other. Google it. Don't take my word for it.

I posted pics of myself because otherwise I get feedback along the lines of…she's just a fat frustrated ugly white woman who can't get a man!! I've removed them by the way.

My recommendation is avoid the official dating scene altogether, but rather sign up for the various activity groups on sites like glocals or meetup. That way you have a better chance of meeting a partner a) as they would normally behave and b) with at least one common interest.
And this is very good advice.
Btw. Do you really look like your avatar?

No, what is limited and actively is a groan fest. Participate, but without it. If you discriminate against certain opinions, please do so with using words, not going overboard with groaning. Read up the common forum netiquette, in order to engage in a productive debate.

Ok, that was that..learning to multiquote is another practical skill to show while being opinionated.

Otherwise, peeps, keep the jabs possibly impersonal, if there's a way, even in a "I have my preferences and proud of it, see stats" thread. If you want to challenge somebody, good for you, do it in all civility. If you meet a troll, ignore. Attention seeking gets fed by emotionality and attention.

It would be a much simpler conversation and a cleaner thread without the racist Insinuations. If the question is if Zuerich still has cultural homogeny, it no longer does. They would have to insulate themselves with other like- minded people, and exclude others. Which some Swiss try to do. But you don't have to be in Switzerland to do that. The Amish do it.

Did you know that the Amish are Swiss descent?

Lady, there's a trend going on here in Singapore and in South East Asia (I'm not going to reiterate but it's along race and cultural lines and from the looks of it the same is going on in the US). I have not taken any personal "jabs" at anyone here. Statistics provides a useful overview of what is going on. Statistics are used by companies and governments alike to gage what the wider picture is. You can also use personal observations and experiences. I've posted on this already.

Regarding "groans," as much as I'm a fan of egalitarian Switzerland and the Swiss political system, I prefer listening to the parliamentary debates in UK as I find the British to be excellent orators and if anyone here has watched English parliamentary debates, they'll see that it's full of groans and cheers It's a pity there isn't a sound function on this forum.
