Take a look at the divorce statistics from the Swiss Federal Office of Statistics on international marriages.
They publish stats on this?

Jesus, (on a second thought, let's leave Jesus out of this thread...) what are you smoking?
....
If there is one conclusion to this thread is it home ignorant many seem to enjoy their decades old stereotypes - here is a top tip: go and make some friends with folks from different cultures and make your own experience instead.

I think you might have fixated a little too long on that one. I did state "historical", so no need to panic. I am very intimately aware of all the various Asian culture, much more than you may realize, but you really ought to be more conscious of EF and such posts. I spent like 15 seconds to type that post, but you seem to have invested considerably more in yours. I hope you didn't lose any sleep over it. Relax, you'll be fine Gaijin.

By the way, OfficeGirl, when you mentioned the importance of a dating scene, were you thinking in terms of finding a relationship? As in settling down? Or as in something like searching for Mr. Goodbar?

People can tell me endlessly that Brits, Americans and other colonials use the term "Caucasians" for Whites, WRONG the term is. As Caucasian refers to Georgia, Armania, Azerbaijan and adjoining regions of Russia. If you like your nose as it is you better do not tell any Russian that he is Caucasian as the relationship between the Russians and the Caucasians is rather a bit difficult

So says a man who speaks a language in which this is a kind of bear:

@Phos: Tis odd you mention it here because just yesterday I was thinking of that film in relation to this thread but dismissed it out of hand almost instantaneously as not doing justice to the movie at all !

It's a valid question. The OP may have had something like that in mind, while others had another.

As for the Swiss dating scene in that respect, I do know that the Swiss get plenty of play with other Swiss. While male expats typically get very little or no play. I don't know about female expats. I think it is the language and cultural barrier that blocks male expats. But for female expats, if attractive, Swiss men might magically speak english.

Well, for dating there's always "Bauer, ledig, sucht...", but I'm not sure if that will work for or against Switzerland...

I love the OP to give it a try and then get matched with an Asian Bauer...

I don't think I'm adding particularly new to the conversation, but I have this impression too. In my personal experience as a twenty-something in a university setting -in which you would expect that it's easier to meet people- most of my foreign female friends have met and dated local guys, whereas my foreign male friends have generally had very little success with dating Swiss girls. Of course, anecdote is not the singular of data

On the other hand, in the period 2004-2013, there were 23% more registered marriages between Swiss men and foreign women than viceversa (source). So, you know, maybe there's definitely truth to it

I am sad to have to admit, the above is right. Not everyone but I have lost count how many men over 40 have said that even 33 was too old for them.
yep, and theyre all still single, haha!
have a look at 25-29 years of age girls online profiles: bald, 40 plus, horny? adieux! besides i dont know much men being interested in having kids in the first place. wonder where you all live or go/hang out with? 34 is perfect!

Not too much like it one would hope given it's based on a true story that ended rather tragically.

Okay, back to the actual thread topic itself...

I didn't realize the movie was based on an actual person. But I can imagine that has happened often.

Don't scare him. He said something about being in Singapore. He's more culturally aware now than an ignoramus like me.

Boy, your colleague must be ugly... my last manager in Switzerland got married to a Japanese some 45 years ago and even back then was it not that much of a taboo anymore...

It didn't take a trip to Singapore for that... most farmers in central Switzerland have more tolerant views than you do.

You'd be amazed at how tolerant I am, if you only knew. I just sometimes like uncovering the little shocking truths people would rather not admit. Perhaps you are confusing ignorance as tolerance.

Trust me, I know Asia quite well.

Back to dating in Switzerland, I have to say that a lot of the Swiss are very attractive. Women friends who come here go nuts over the men, and the women are very sweet and beautiful when you can get them to smile.

I'm not saying online dating doesn't have it's place, but if you are single active, charismatic, confident and at least-half good looking, it is a waste of time in Switzerland.

(not sure why I got a groan for this)
