Re: Your favourite French language movie

We were hooked on this, Salamander, it won loads of awards, in Dutch and French with English Subtitles

Re: Your favourite French language movie

I have not watched nearly as many French language movies as most of the people in this forum. Amelia which has already been mentioned is a recent one which I really, really liked. Another older movie which I saw at the AFI Silver Theatre a few years ago was the movie Bob Le Flambeur. I believe it was remade into a 2002 Neil Jordan film The Good Thief starring Nick Nolte which I have not seen. I'm sure the Jordan film is good, but I really doubt that it will have the same ending (and satisfying final shot) as the original.

Re: Your favourite French language movie

I know it is a long shot but when I was a child i watched a film -(think it might have been in Black and White) but it was about learning to drive.

I think it was called The Driving Instructor or something along those lines - anyone seen it? I would love to see it again as I have never forgotten how much I enjoyed it!

Chacun cherche son chat - loved that movie. Oh and of course Delicatessen. and any of the Trois Couleurs (my favourite was actually White, FYI).

I was tempted to reply in French, but realised it's an English forum
No, I don't learn for DALF, it's just because I learned the language long time ago and have never used it since.
You can check others' suggestions about the films here in this thread. I also consult with IMDb. I personally don't have a formal list at hand, but I could compile one and send it to you if you want to. Good luck!

Has anyone watched Monica Bellucci's Irreversible?

Dark and without the humour....

Re: Your favourite French language movie

There's a great film I studied at university called C.R.A.Z.Y.
It's a Canadian French film about self discovery

Do you mean L'Auberge Espagnole - the one where Roman Dursis goes off to live in Barcelona?

I'm surprised that no one has mentioned 'Cyrano de Bergerac' with Depardieu and Vincent Perez.

If you want something silly and light and not too challenging then the Asterix films are easy, as are 'Camping', Brice de Nice and Taxi (there's a whole series of these but I've only seen the first).

Re: Your favourite French language movie

I watched Adèle 1&2/blue is the warmest colour last weekend and loved it! I found the realism so refreshing! Snotty noses, food around mouth (and proper eating for that matter, so fed up of seeing eating scenes on movies where the characters just push it around, poke it a bit or don't even touch it at all! Argh so annoying haha) sex scenes quite graphic though, not one to watch with the rents or in-laws!
