Best places to buy furniture

Hello everyone!

I will be moving to Baar in Jan 2015 and would appreciate your guidance on where to purchase furniture, light fittings and the best TV/Internet service.

As there is quite a lot on-street parking near my house, can I use these to park my car by buying some monthly or annual parking permit?

Thanks for your attention and replies.

It all depends on how you define "best"......quality of price.

If it's price, then Ikea are as good as anybody, if it is quality, then i am sure you can easily find waht you want in Zug or Zurich.

Another laternative if it is price, wopuld be to buy second hand from here.

Re: Best places to buy furniture

No IKEA for me and neither the very top end. Something that makes a good balance between price and quality - lets say above average.

thank you.

I think it really depends on your tastes. 'Furniture' alone is a bit vague. And you haven't defined price.

Our Ikea bed cost about 1000 CHF. We thought that was a good balance between price and quality.

How much do you want to spend on a bed (for example) ? 2000 CHF? 3000 CHF?

Re: Best places to buy furniture

There are a few furniture places one next to each other in baarerstrasse, after Metalli. They are a bit expensive though.

You might as well look at ads here and watch for bargains.

Re: Best places to buy furniture

It may be a bit out of your way, but I've always been satisfied with Schubiger in Dübendorf. I've bought several items from them over the years and was always satisfied. They are not cheap by any stretch, but the salesman was knowledgable and helpful and didn't try to pressure me into buying anything. The quality is good and they delivered and assembled the stuff for me and even took away the old stuff free of charge (you normally pay to get rid of furniture in Switzerland)

Re: Best places to buy furniture

We got lots of nice stuff from Interio

http://www.interio.ch/de/cms/frontpage

Modern furniture + accessories.
More expensive than IKEA, but better quality. And Swiss
Rather like Habitat used to be, before they went bust.
They have lots of showrooms, but you can order online.

Are you sure?

I've had a few pieces of furniture from Conforama, as there's one very close by (compared to Ikea), but I've always considered it to be a poor-man's Ikea, quality wise.
Prices reflect less out-of-the-box pre-construction done, requiring more fiddly self-assembly at home.

Re: Best places to buy furniture

Pfister (www.pfister.ch) has a good range, quality products and reasonable (for Switzerland) prices.

I bought a dining table from here: http://www.akayu.ch/. Very reasonable prices and nice solid-wood funiture.

Interio is also ok. I bought a massive solid oak table from their for my office meeting room.

In my opinion, the order of price/quality from cheapest to most expensive:
Conforama
Ikea
Interio
Pfister

Check out Moebel Egger in Eschenbach LU. Is about 15 minutes by car from Baar away. Nice furniture and a really nice big store.
Check the internet www.moebelegger.ch

Or www.wohnhalle.ch in Baar

Re: Best places to buy furniture

perhaps a bit of a left-field recommendation, but if you don't mind driving, Schweigert in Maulberg, Germany is one of the best furniture stores around.

They ship to CH and take care of all taxes etc.

The advantage with Pfister is they offer full service, so they deliver and assemble for a fixed price. Many products include this full service price. Of course you can pick up items if you want to. If you have a Pfister customer card you are eligible for additional discounts.

We bought most of our furniture at Pfister and the quality is so good that it lasts, possibly much longer than you may want to keep the furniture. If you may only be here a short while, this is something to keep in mind.

I have sold some of the pieces on EF and it is funny to see them being offered for sale again.

So do keep an eye on the ads here as not everyone is selling only Ikea items.

I right here have Conforama stuff purchased in 1991. 92 and 93 and which still is perfect. Add to this that the style of Conforama is miles better than the ugly one of IKEA. Assembly instructions are easy and really helpful.

I bought my first bostitch in 1967 which was fully PRC produced and which was heavily in use until 1999. Which means the the Chinese produce excellent stuff

Definitely give TopTip a browse - they're Co-op's furniture branch and we've found some really good deals there (by Swiss standards)

Conformara is IKEA for people who prefer French design to Swedish. So a bit more eye candy and chaos and less calculated coolness. Quality and price are about the same.

Are you looking for new or used ?

There are some very good deals on this forum here, otherwise I'd go to ricardo.ch or anibis.ch (websites)
