2 months is not a "normal" stay for a guest, and I would certainly be asking for some contribution to living costs if it was not a family member and I didn't know him so well. The fact you refuse his insistence to contribute probably just makes him feel guilty, because any normal, reasonable person would surely feel like they were taking the piss in that situation.
Did you actually read what I wrote? I said we haven't asked for anything but he has insisted on giving... so we accepted. We didn't ASK, that's the point. He's in a bad situation and has come to look for a job. No, it's not a normal situation but I suppose it depends on your generosity of spirit. I like to think I was raised to care about other people. I am currently helping him look for a room of his own until he has his first 3 payslips (yes, he has found a job which he couldn't have done without staying with us for such a long time). I imagine he'll be staying with us for the first week of January and will move out afterwards.

How you can manage to turn me opening up my home and doing something frankly selfless for someone I don't know very well into something negative i.e. me making that person feel guilty is beyond me. What a jaded character you are.

Re: Colleague trying to get money

A friend of mine has my PC at his place - it's better than it being in storage. I am not charging him rent for it!! And my TV and all my CDs and as he has about 1000 vinyl records - he's even got my Donny Osmond collection!!

She did not want to discuss it because it was not true.
She told me 19 bottles of perfume were missing.

Right then and there, I opened up all my bags and throught their contents in the floor. Made her touch and look everything as I was very offended.

Then she said about the things I am sure she will create as "missing".
Right, but she can't make imaginary bottles of perfume materialise in your bag just like she can't make up proof for any other imaginary items you've supposedly stolen.

Seriously just cut contact with her.

Unfortunately, I only smoke cigars.

Re: Colleague trying to get money

Hi Dear

I have been living in Switzerland since 37 years and I can assure you you that she has nothing against you. You should not pay anything eighter because it would make you look guilty from a legal perspective. This would make it seem like there where an agreement between the two of you. She has to proof that there was an arrangement between you and her. Ensure that you point that out in all emails and SMS between you and her. Do not answer her calls only if you have a witness (friend etc.) with you. Put her on loud speaker.

Tell her that you will file a report against her if she should contact your Company/Boss.This is called "Anzeige wegen Üblere Nachrede = libel writ or defamation".

The Swiss law is on your side. Don't do anything just save everything she is threatening you with and DO NOT AGREE TO HER ACCUSATIONS .I don't wish bad for her...Karma will catch her one day though.

Do you want me to poop on her porch for you?

I usually charge 100 CHF for those services, but if you act quickly, I'll give you 25% off.

if you ever pay, do it by wire transfer to have a track of the transaction.
You can also "threat" her to local tax authorities: acting like a hotel without authorization and not declaring VAT and revenues. If she's done that with you, she's probably done that before with others.
Need a turnover over 100,000 for VAT, the tax office won't care about a few hundred CHF, the liability only exists if its 1000 or more. In any case they will not care.

Re: Colleague trying to get money

Just out of curiosity, were you going to give her anything as a token of your appreciation? What arrangements did you make before moving in?

The law is on your side but she did offer you a haven and is in need of money so offering her some retribution seems appropriate in this situation.

As for accusing you of stealing, that's just weird but maybe she's been burned so often in the past, she no longer has the ability to make wise decisions and sane actions.

I have noticed, with the Swiss (don't know if this is just where I am), that if you say to a friend "Oh I'll be in place X next week, could I sleep on your sofa/ stay in your apartment for a few days" … they will be like "Sure, is 30chf a night ok?" ….. I was horrified at first, but now I just expect it. I have also had Swiss friends give me money for letting them stay for a few nights, even though I would never dream of asking them, ridiculous
I have never heard anything like this before. I would never ask for money when some friends come and stay over. For a while I did the couchsurfing thing (couchsurfing.org) and even let strangers surf my couch - for free of course. Odd friends you have.

Given that, just refuse and tell her that you won't be acknowledging any further communications from her that aren't sent by registered letter. If it's her word against yours, then you're in the clear, as she can't prove anything, so I wouldn't be giving her any money.

Thank you!!! I will do that.

To be fair your sentence was open to interpretation, you made it sound like he insisted but you refused, hence my comment.

Eiother way, no need for the mother theresa drama llama act, this isn't a "who can appear the most magnanimous in a thread" competition.

No she didn't.
It was pretty clear in her post that they'd asked for nothing but the guest had insisted on contributing anyway. Nowhere in her post did she give any indication that they'd refused.

. . .
Today when I was getting ready, she told me to get ready that she wold be sending me the bill for the stay in her house plus the food I ate there . . .
This is most un-Swiss. Usually here, when a guest is invited to someone's house, say for dinner or an overnight stay, the guest presents the host with a bill with bank payment slip, to cover such incidental expenses as his travelling costs, bus fares etc., loss of earnings, which he would otherwise have received, had he not been invited out, etc. Maybe also, if there are children involved, the cost of a baby sitter, etc.

It is ridiculous to expect that host, who, having invited a guest in order to benefit from that guest's company, should send him/her (the guest) home uncompensated and empty handed.
