Re: Countersign UK passport application please!

As an example of checking up on a countersignatory.

I once had a very interesting conversation with the (British) HR person of a very well known International firm who had countersigned one of their employees application.

The conversation was particularly interesting because the person making the application was using the documents of a deceased person which he had obtained illegally.............

OP, I can perfectly understand your difficulty, and the urgent need for your child's passport, but at the end of the day you are asking members of the forum to do something illegal.

Sure, if you don't mind your application taking longer or having a higher risk of rejection. HTH.
There is no reason at all to believe that an application signed by a non-professional person will take longer to process, as long as they fulfill the three main requirements; being a UK or Irish passport holder, having known the applicant (or their parent in the case of a child) for at least two years and are of 'good standing in their community' their signature is perfectly acceptable.

Insisting that the signatory must be someone off the given list of professionals is perpetuating an urban myth.

Re: Countersign UK passport application please!

For al of you who think that they don't check up on counter signatories for UK passports I can assure you they do.
I have just got off the phone after speaking to a very nice lady from the passport office in Durham ( albeit with an almost incomprehensible accent) who just wanted to confirm a few details on the form I countersigned for my friend's newborn a couple of weeks ago.
Thankfully everything was in order and the passport will be processed immediately and my friend should receive it next week.

Re: Countersign UK passport application please!

Did this recently (3 months ago) for the son of a friend of mine. The form asked for the signature of an EU citizen who has known the person (his son in my case) for two years. I'm a student and we had no issues and passport arrived in about 5 or 6 weeks.

Needed my signature and passport number (I'm Irish) . Think it was the kids first solo passport.
