Romanian larcenists for sure . Switzerland used to be a very safe country before the fall of the Iron Curtain. Our country is full of Eastern European criminals. Same thing in Germany, UK, France, Italy...

Sorry for your loss!
Sorry- but as you thanked the dreadful post above, you've truly lost my sympathy

Why not take it into the shop with you? Not sure why anyone would leave it unattended.

Uncontrollable barking. Best to leave it where it won't terrify the natives. They're flighty, you know.

No, but it has never occurred to me to leave my groceries outside a supermarket unattended. Neither in Switzerland nor anywhere else. To be honest, I find this a rather strange idea.

Re: Someone stole my shopping!

My cousin once had seventeen hair follicles stolen from outside a shop when he was busy painting fish on contract for Denner. He'd picked them up at the Coop, hoping to softly steam them and serve them with ounce, but didn't want to upset the manager of Denner on account of his baldness.

They never caught the criminals, but a friend of hers complained about a particularly hirsute steak tartare at a nearby cafeteria a few weeks later, so you never know.

I'd always keep my prized possessions in my pocket, just to be sure. I've never lost a bike or car or any other kind of amusement since.

It's the only way to be safe, surely?

Guys, I think you should visit Romania before having any opinion about it.

Or at least have some Romanian friends, we're kind of kind. Ok, not me specifically, but you get the point, don't you?

Hi there.

I felt like I just needed to vent a bit because yesterday, in the Coop, I had my shopping stolen. Maybe I was naive, but in the eight months I have been here, and having always had maybe a bag or two of shopping from other stores, which I'd leave in the umbrella stand area, I have never had a problem! it is where people often leave their shopper trolleys (old granny trolleys, I call them). I never left anything of high value - just everyday food and household shopping, but still... Yesterday evening, I had a bit of shopping from the Migros with me, which I left in that in the same area of the Coop I always have. When I got what I needed from the Coop, I was just shocked to see that both bags I'd left there had gone! I couldn't believe that someone would take someone's groceries/household shopping! Maybe in London or in big cities, but this is a pretty safe and respectable area! I guess, like I said, I was naive... Thieves are everywhere, and they'll take anything that isn't nailed down! From now on, I suppose I'll have to ask customer services in-store if they'll keep hold of any bags I have when I go into other stores, or buy a granny trolley and hide it in there and hope they don't find it! It's a pain to drag it all around in the supermarket (obviously I don't drive). Has anyone else had anything stolen since they moved here?

I did speak to the supermarket manager and asked him if he would check any CCTV, and I am also going to report it to the police to see if they can get hold of the CCTV from the surrounding shops/bank/post office that the thief/thieves would have needed to walk past/around to get to and from the Coop. I know it was only groceries, but it's the principle, and this has really pissed me off because it is not cheap to buy groceries here, and I've never had anything like this happen in the time I've been here!

Nonetheless, I'm trying to be positive and focus on the kind people who handed in my purse on the two occasions I dropped it, and the other kind person who handed in my watch when I lost it here last year! I have become quite obsessive with everything when I'm out now!

Very sorry to hear such as what you did is what I did and do all the time. Had a look in WEBsites and see that Bubendorf looks closely like the St. Mary Mead of Miss Marple where Agatha Christie many a crime. No no no, I am not amused in any way. A cashier at Aldi not too long ago pointed out that I should place my stuff in a place visible to the cashier and everybody around as thieves in his views are cowards. True, but unfortunately no garantee for anything. I today was at Alligro and had my stuff placed around the Corner, a bit hidden, but the way away in full sight of everybody. It worked well, but a guarantee there was None. At COOP nearby I often place stuff on the table with the magazines or onto the shelf of an unused cashier position. Again, zero guarantee, but it worked hundreds of times, even in places like Cairo, Alexandria and New York.

It was nice even before Schengen. I've never had anything stolen, but I use to take care of my possessions. Truth to be told, one time a teenager tried to steal my bag. It was on a dark alley, I knew I should't have been there, at that hour.
I fiercely pulled back my bag, he was left with the handles. I carried on, all the money intact.
No-one from my acquaintances had this kind of episode (not that they lead a sheltered life, mind you), I am a "heroine".

Thanks for your reply! I'd like to think it WAS a mistake, but I find it hard to imagine how someone could make a mistake when the the bags were quite distinctive (one was red with white dots, and the other was red with flowers). I know I probably seem stupid for leaving two brightly coloured bags like that, it's just that I've always done it here and had no problems at all. It was always like that when I was a kid and spent a lot of time here. People were trusting and people were honest. In the little old style villages I still hang on to that image of honest and trustworthy people. Maybe I'm getting old!

Oh, by the way, yes the stuff stolen was yummy; one of the items was a birthday cake for my friend - a Kirschtorte that cost quite a sum. Luckily, I managed to get her a replacement today! It was the last one they had left, so I was lucky!

It is not that you get old. It is not that you were stupid but that you simply had some bad luck. And people still are trustworthy and honest, with apparently ONE exception

Which exception, Wolli?

Is it your old obsession about gypsies, and Romanian gypsies in particular? Spill it out, I want to know. Honestly.

Is it someone in their right mind to bellieve that those bags with food goodies were stoled by Romanian gypsies, who are everywhere and responsible of every little theft. If so, I really, really, pity that person.

I blame the Eidgenossen. All that smiling and grüezi and chüechichästli - it's just a front. The moment your back's turned, they'll swipe anything that isn't nailed down.

The exception may be a Bubendorfer. And I do NOT have an Obsession about Gypsies at all. And never had.

Regrettably enough, the Romanian Gypsies have become the scapegoats for everything up from 1990. But I do not believe for a Moment that either Gypsies nor organised crime travel around places like Bubendorf to snatch purchases of people in that way.

Yeah, my grand-grand-grand parents from Iran too, it's a pity I didn't have a say.

Gone are the days when they walked freely in Tehran, the smell of the peaches, oh, that smell!
