MN, that sounds like Lincoln.
Statistically sound advice !

Not sure anyone can really feel outraged about the situation.
It's unfortunate OP.
There are good people everywhere, but why tempt fate?

Is that Guy Falks or a New Englander ?
Excellent said by both MN and you. And no, I can't feel the rage, and not because she tempted the fate, which was a mistake, obviously. If it happened to me I'd have said "Man, they must have been reeeally hungry...".
Seriously, we pay tons of money for stuff that we end up throwing away, we're ripped off by various companies, banks, and what not. A lustful bugger steals a bag with good food and bam shigan, all our faith in humanity is gone. Boo hoo.
Except if it wasn't a disoriented granny, in which case I apologise for the "lustful bugger"...

Btw, am I the only one to have noticed there's plenty of snow today? What a good time for some cross country skiing.

Just don't leave your Ski's unattended outside the Stübli and be shocked when somebody has skidaddled away with them.

They were relatively cheap...anyway, I wouldn't be me, seriously. If I left unchained my rather expensive bike for hours, and nothing ever happened....anyway, I guess I like taking those risks in Switzerland.
(but you'll also never hear or see me complaining if something like this happens)

Yeah, it must have been the gypsies....

No-one else could have been interested in some gourmet products, as everyone here is a happy millionaire....
didn't say that. i just said there are no safe areas anymore, here in the south they get inside houses and firms in the valleys because they are easier, sometimes they are minors coming from milan with stolen cars. And we still have it good, in italy there are always some hanging around the supermarket and on the parking lot you can't even trust to leave your car with things inside.

Looks as if you do not have humour enough. Neither Austria nor Switzerland nor Germany have an issue about this. While the Party in power in Budapest really HAS, While I joked about the matter, those in government in Budapest do NOT joke at all. To have it with that old film "Casablanca" I cannot tell you what the future will be ..... but what will be will be

Re: Someone stole my shopping!

Yes quite naive for sure. I had a co-worker that said she was oncehaving a coffee in Basel on Freistrasse. She had her purse on the chair and she kept feeling something move then she realized that the guy next to her was reaching behind and had his hand/arm in her purse. He was also having a coffee btw. So no where is safe, not even good ol utopia Switzerland.

I'd also try my luck up there in the North and East...

But really, this thread is hilarious. Switzerland has 25% of population made up by furiners. I'd let you take a wild guess. And don't start bullshitting me how well behaved are all of its citizens/residents of foreign origins... And of course, the of course! small fraction of bad, bad Swiss people.

Unless it was a Swiss too proud to ask for help from social services, as I heard....

Hi there.

I felt like I just needed to vent a bit because yesterday, in the Coop, I had my shopping stolen. Maybe I was naive, but in the eight months I have been here, and having always had maybe a bag or two of shopping from other stores, which I'd leave in the umbrella stand area, I have never had a problem! it is where people often leave their shopper trolleys (old granny trolleys, I call them). I never left anything of high value - just everyday food and household shopping, but still... Yesterday evening, I had a bit of shopping from the Migros with me, which I left in that in the same area of the Coop I always have. When I got what I needed from the Coop, I was just shocked to see that both bags I'd left there had gone! I couldn't believe that someone would take someone's groceries/household shopping! Maybe in London or in big cities, but this is a pretty safe and respectable area! I guess, like I said, I was naive... Thieves are everywhere, and they'll take anything that isn't nailed down! From now on, I suppose I'll have to ask customer services in-store if they'll keep hold of any bags I have when I go into other stores, or buy a granny trolley and hide it in there and hope they don't find it! It's a pain to drag it all around in the supermarket (obviously I don't drive). Has anyone else had anything stolen since they moved here?

I did speak to the supermarket manager and asked him if he would check any CCTV, and I am also going to report it to the police to see if they can get hold of the CCTV from the surrounding shops/bank/post office that the thief/thieves would have needed to walk past/around to get to and from the Coop. I know it was only groceries, but it's the principle, and this has really pissed me off because it is not cheap to buy groceries here, and I've never had anything like this happen in the time I've been here!

Nonetheless, I'm trying to be positive and focus on the kind people who handed in my purse on the two occasions I dropped it, and the other kind person who handed in my watch when I lost it here last year! I have become quite obsessive with everything when I'm out now!
Hey what a different village you live in. have never noticed any shopping bags where people leave the umbrellas, but have seen the Trolleys & never took any notice if they had contents. Mainly round here, people seem to use the trolleys for recycling when no car. The older people who would need a trolley often have those combined walkers with the basket in the front - I think they are great, never noticed them in UK.

re CCTV, did you go to the Police! Just I had been told there is some special laws re CCTV and Police unlikely to view them for missing shopping, I also think the shopkeeper would not do it either. Sorry I have nothing to quote here, just I was given to understand, that hard-drive for the likes of CCTV is locked and that application has to be made to the company who maintains the system to open it & more legalities. I believe also something about premises that have CCTV that the screens have to be visibly to the public. It is something I like about Switzerland, the trust. In London not many places I would feel free to scratch my arshe, as hidden cameras everywhere by the baddies and goodies.

What you have done, too late, my hindsight, put a distinct Lost Notice on the For Sale advertisement board, at least then the locals would become aware for their safe possessions.

Hope you are over the shock, sorry this has happened to you, perhaps it will save you from something in the future.

all good wishes

Thanks.

I know it's not the end of the world, and I am thankful that when it concerned my purse or watch, it was a positive outcome. I spoke to the manager of the store and asked about CCTV; he took down my number, and I made a report to the police. It might sound silly to some, but I guess when (being the clumsy thing that I am and dropping my purse twice in the last six months, and losing my watch), they were handed in each time, I kind of always felt that a few groceries (admittedly not cheap groceries) should be fine, and they always have been.

Around here and the nearby villages, all the Migros and Coop stores have an area, usually near the entrance, where there is an umbrella stand and usually quite few of those shopper trolleys and umbrellas are left.

Well, most of it was perishable goods/fresh stuff, so not much use to me now! I think I just felt angry because, as naive as it seems, I didn't expect to walk up there and find the stuff just gone! I wanted the person/people caught, but yeah, I know that it probably won't happen, and it is not the end of the world.

Alright, if in the frame of some WK exercises, the Vorarlberg, chunks of Tirol, Kärnten, Steiermark, Southern Hungary and Northern Romania got taken over, things would become more entertaining. A majority in public votes would approve the change, and the Tüütsch-Schwiiz would gain some percentage_points. Imagine that you can use both Cumulus Points and your Supercard on the Plattensee and in Timischoara

Sorry you lost your stuff, I usually leave my shopping at the entrance with the kundendienst where they give you a ticket for it, or carry it with me inside the shop (especially when it's stuff not sold at Coop/Migros)...

Hope you'll extend your plans to Brasov county too, where most of my family hails from... I'd rather not lose those Cumulus and Supercard points.
