Thanks.

Well, most of it was perishable goods/fresh stuff, so not much use to me now! I think I just felt angry because, as naive as it seems, I didn't expect to walk up there and find the stuff just gone! I wanted the person/people caught, but yeah, I know that it probably won't happen, and it is not the end of the world.
See it this way, for the person who stole your food, maybe it was more needed for him/her than you.

It won't bring back your food but to think that maybe that person needed it more than you can ease the frustration.

Just what I was thinking NIL.

Just what my brother said to my dad when a taxi driver in Buenos Aires (in the 80s) drove off with the large note wihout giving him change- that at least his family would eat that day.

Re: Someone stole my shopping!

I resent the suggestion that poverty leads to theft. In my experience, poor people are WAY more honest than the stereotypes suggest.

If the bags were taken deliberately, they were taken by a dishonest person, not a poor person.

True. But poverty can also lead to extreme measures in order to eat something.

No poverty doesn't lead to theft.

The person who stole the bags could have been because he was hungry, or mentally ill, or a scum bag or many other reasons only known by that person.

I prefer to think the person, for what ever reason he stole the bags did it because he needed more than the other person. It doesn't make it an excuse, it doesn't make it acceptable but it does help the victim to let go.

Nah. The person who took the bags - if they took them deliberately - did so because they are dishonest.

The choice to forgive is a separate factor. The fact remains that taking other people's property without permission is theft, plain and simple.

Guess DB doesn't really know how's like to be HUNGRY, or poor. He thinks rural Greeks are poor...

Is it possible someone with no money left in the house and too proud or too lonely to ask for help, could have stolen the bag? As you said, there could be many scenarios.

I don't.

But thinking more of your post, I guess it's only you that should be allowed to play with stereotypes?

Not if it's intended to use the property to suffocate the owner. Then it'll probably be rolled into a murder or attempted murder charge.

...or to have more than one murdered. Then it could easily escalate to terrorism charges.

Just to clarify: Romania isn't in Schengen...yet. Although it technically qualifies, according to the guidelines set for it, it wasn't accepted. Personally I think this decision was correct, for the time being.

Desperate times, desperate measures: he decided not to return the phone but bury it under a tree in a far away wood instead.

Of course. Even though our own observations and common sense tell us that:

There's a lot more poverty than meets the eye.
Perhaps it was too tempting for somebody in need (this doesn't excuse it of course).
I wouldn't leave groceries unattended even in a small village.

Do they grant asylum to Romanians in Switzerland?

Given that the thief or thieves are 100% Romanian gypsies according to certain posters on here then as long as he's not Romanian he's safe from suspicion.

I have to say that personally I wouldn't leave my shopping unattended anywhere but I have seen lots of people who do. I've often been asked to keep and eye on somebody's bags in a cafe or self service restaurant here whilst somebody goes to get their food or visits the loo.
