Buying a sofa in France

Can anyone recommend a good furniture store in France where I can buy a sofa. Ideally it would be close to Basel...........Thanks!

Don't know of any in the Saint Louis area unfortunately.
But there are a bunch of stores near Mulhouse.

Re: Buying a sofa in France

Hey, I might get some furniture from there as well!
Does anyone have experience with the customs there?
Do you just pay the MwSt. and it's all ok or do they full check the whole van?

Re: Buying a sofa in France

Just depends- you never know. You are allowed 300 CHF value of import for each person, and that is it. But you can't combine value for 1 piece of furniture. Eg if you have 2 mattresses each worth 300 you are ok, but if you have a sofa worth 600- it does not work. If you buy other stuff, like food, meat, wine, etc, it will count as part of the 300CHF, and if you have over you will have to pay tax on all.

For larger items therefore, get the shop to cancel the FRench VAT- and give you a receipt to that effect- you will then have to pay Swiss VAT, and then return to the shop to get the French VAT back! Complicated, yes- but worth it if you don't live too far
