Found an i-phone - how to find owner

My daughter found an i-phone sitting on a snowbank on the side of the street behind our house while walking our dog this afternoon. I hate to leave it to be potentially ruined in the melting snow, but I have no idea how to find the owner. I suspect, based on our somewhat remote location, and the playful outer case design, that the phone belongs to some boys we heard playing earlier today.

any thoughts on how to return it??
my husband suggested posting a small sign on the back gate, but I'm not sure I want to post our phone number on a public street - even a remote one.

any thoughts?

Hand it in to the police or whatever lost&found system your area uses.

Charge it up - I am sure the owner will try and ring it at some point, when they realise it's missing.

Re: Found an i-phone - how to find owner

It is locked - and says "carte sim verrouilée".
But if calls are able to come through, maybe the owner will call before I turn it over to the commune.

Thanks for the suggestions.

SIM is locked.

You could ask at an Apple store.
They're the only ones who can match the device ID to an Apple ID and probably to a phone number.
Or report it to the next police-station.

I would either wait for the owner to call it, or call one of the frequent numbers on it; failing that hand into police station

Re: Found an i-phone - how to find owner

Police is the obvious answer.

It's a pity that Apple hasn't included the same software as Android.

On the lock screen, on my Android phone is the option to give my name and home phone number, which shows when the power button is activated.

Re: Found an i-phone - how to find owner

It's not difficult to put a little sticker with contact details on things. I deal with lost items day and less than 1% have any form of owners details. Unclaimed items go in the crusher or bin after 3 months.

The SIM is locked.
I thought the prohibited all but emergency calls.
Including incoming calls.

Re: Found an i-phone - how to find owner

swipe down from the top of the screen to see any pending notifications and messages which might contain information that can be used to contact the owner or family/friends.

last month I found an iphone in the restroom in the HB in Zurich and it turned out to belong to an American family visiting europe. I had to ship the phone to their hotel in paris.

Re: Found an i-phone - how to find owner

A friend recently left her iPad in an electronics store in the US. I found out when a cashier their posted on her Facebook account, giving his name and asking her friends to put her in touch with him.

Security, thy name is not consumer. /sigh

But anyway, police station is the best bet.

Re: Found an i-phone - how to find owner

And a happy ending!
My small, friendly commune has a 'lost and found' page on their website and I had emailed the commune contact with the details on Sunday. This morning when I went to drop off the phone I learned the owner's father had inquired about the phone. It was a young boy who lost it. Apparently it was a new phone he had recently received.
And the bonus for me is I now know a few methods for allowing a phone to be reunited once lost - this will certainly come in handy once my daughter is allowed to carry a phone.

Well I hope they gave you something for being honest!!!The bonus for you should be a cash reward. A Simcard is always registered. So you could have simply taken it to the Mobile provider

Create a Screen grab of a note with details. Use as image for desktop...

To the OP: hand in to police.

Re: Found an i-phone - how to find owner

Hand to the police ASAP. My friend found a phone a few months ago. Put in his bag so to hand to his office security. forgot about it the next day... By evening the police were at his door and he is door and charged him with theft. The phone had a tracking device and they tracked it to his address...

No good deed goes unpunished.

Do you people not read a thread before posting a reply? The OP already listed yesterday that the phone has been reunited with it's owner.
