The surfboard was missing! [visiting a sauna]

I was in the Hurlimann Thermal bath in Zürich yesterday. It really seemed out of place these guys with their down to the knee boardshorts. I was thinking that maybe they lost their bearings on the way to Hawaii.WTF! Sitting around sweating in boardshorts in a Sauna. That's gotta be pure Swiss.

Seems to revolve around the effort to conceal that bulge between the legs........ cough.

Re: The surfboard was missing!

Long baggy "board" shorts are not allowed in pools, as far as I know.
For hygiene reasons - it must be proper swimming shorts, not pants with pockets fellows wear to carry their keys/wallet/snot-rags/etc.

Is that you sitting in the sauna? If not, the guy`s not wearing shorts, he`s wearing a towel.

Isn't some kind of cover required at Hurlimann? Next to Google, right? Whereas in other places, its not allowed, such as Schinznach.

I never understood the hygiene reasoning. Keys, wallets and snot rags are more contaminated than ones own hands? I have never known a surfer to carry a snot rag in their baggies.

I personally only swim in baggies, with pocket. My swimming colleague is always faster than me, but I burn more calories.

Yes. Bathers have to be worn. Only in the "peeling area" there is a notice to take off the pants. Makes sense-how can you do a peeling wearing your bathers. But still nobody dares to go naked. Or at least a few-including myself.Sad really! It's next to Google.

You know incorrectly.

Perhaps you're getting Switzerland confused with France?

It depends which pool.

There are some pools in Switzerland which don't allow long, baggy board shorts.

Yes, I'm a fan of that place. I like the layout. Except the saunas are not hot enough for me. Schinznach Bad has hotter saunas, and swimwear is prohibited.

One consequence of allowing clothes is that they often don't turn the temperature up enough and it ends up turning into sitting around in a hot stuffy room rather than being a "true" sauna.

In every sauna I've ever been to in Switzerland the wearing of any clothes at all is forbidden.

There is a lot of pools like this as baggy shorts contain an enormous amount of bacteria apparantly that require a lot more chlorine to clean the water

Not in Neuchâtel actually. They are allowed here.

The pools I've been to that don't allow them have been in both the French and German speaking parts if Switzerland.

They weren't allowed in Belgium either. Do you think that's because it was almost in France? Actually in lots of pools there wearing a swim cap was also obligatory.
