Only in Switzerland!

Do you have pictures of places, people, anything really where you thought: "Only in Switzerland"?

Re: Only in Switzerland!

I guess it is now a universal word but really it only means somethin g to people who speak English.

Now if it were to say Fick or Ficker, then this would cause interest in Germanic areas, yet in the UK, it is often used in lieu of "thick" !

Re: Only in Switzerland!

Well blame the Normans for that! The language of northern Normandy, which William the Conqueror and co imported into England in 1066, didn't use the 'h' with 'c'. So a 'char' (a cart) was a car- and a 'charpentier' (a carpenter- was a 'carpentier', etc).

And their 'g' was a 'w' too- hence 'un gardien' was a 'wardien' and became a warder, etc. Amazing what you learn at the U3! (University of 3rd age ).

Only if they're run by the post. Those are very different vehicles from normal busses, you know.

I thought the ones you hire were called "car" and the others bus. There is also the postbus In certain remote areas.
