Re: buying matches?

I feel bad for the intern at the NSA who has to read this thread because it included the words explosive, homemade cannon, black powder, cartridge, terrrist [sic] and USA.

Will be difficult (although not impossible) to find until July.

Restrictions - shouldn't be tied to cats tails or let off in the street near to other humans.

Alternatively, you could consider employing the services of a local women's group and feed them all a curry the night before.

Re: firecrackers?

You can order them at a Drogerie. http://tel.local.ch/en/q?what=drogerie&where=Basel&rid=XU2n

Do not let them off on public roads, only on private ground, between 7am and 8pm.

Re: firecrackers?

Your neighbours will shun you and make your life miserable if you let them off anytime outside of August 1 and Dec. 31.

Re: firecrackers?

If you're planning on having fireworks anytime other than 1 August, you may well need authorization from the local authorities. That's not to say you won't get it, but probably worth doing things properly, particularly if you going to make a lot of noise.

And even then. Pretty fireworks I get, but gratuitous noise we can all do without....

Yes, all firework is restricted in CH. Categories 1 (bengal matches, Tischbomben (table bombs?), 2 (volcanoes, sun wheels, etc) thru 3 (ordinary rockets, thunders and small batteries) are sold in retail by salespeople who have taken some course, they come with an age restriction for the sale only (12+, 16+, 18+).

I think category 4 used to be not sold in retail (I think it used to be professionals-only).

Starting 01.01.2014 some heavier firework (including bigger batteries) were classified Cat4, which requires a license (FWA or FWB). FWA is the "small" one, valid for 5 years and costs 500CHF including the mandatory course, it seems you need an additional license to purchase or (AND?) to ignite (subject to your Gemeinde).

For further info see Schweizerische Koordinationsstelle Feuerwerk (DE and FR only)

Yes. You will definitely have to ask your mummy to buy it for you.
