Re: astonished at toilet at lausanne station...

So spanking the monkey has changed to tickling ferrets. In fact it is a Swiss wildlife discussion.
I have never seen either species of wildlife in my many years in Switzerland but witnessed a couple of monkey situations in public places in the UK in my youth. It would appear in the UK you don't need to go into the public toilet but just find a handy bush (as in stubby tree) or building to stand by, so Swiss cleanliness comes out tops again as they can at least wash their hands afterwards.

Re: astonished at toilet at lausanne station...

A long, long time ago
In a forest many countries away some boys were on a long night hike.
They came across a small car park
With a Volvo estate with the interior dark
And with motion inside that was quite a sight

Flesh caught in bright torch light
A muffled scream and such a fright
The rocking car it did stop
A torch to the floor it did drop
The boys so silent not a jot

I can't remember if I cried
But we knocked on the windows and peered inside
And something was touching her deep inside
The day we saw him try

(At which point we legged it into the woods as fast as we could - lets be honest, it is all well and good seeing a "real live" couple going at it in the back of a Volvo Estate, but as a group of 13 year old boys, once you've knocked on the windows - you're not going to hand around and see what happens next.)

So true, GG! All of the good s**t happens in the Suisse Romande. We even flush our toilets after 11 p.m. with abandon.

Yes, which is why I made it clear that some heteros do so too- and that is not acceptable either. Where do we stop? For me it is clear, we stop at making such behaviour illegal in public places- because the 'public' and especially children, should not be forced to witness such if they have to visit a public toilet. What they do in privacy and away from my and my grand-childrens' gaze it up to them- I have no problem with that.

1) It is illegal
2) Noone is forcing them to watch

If you feel offended you're free to press charges (Art. 198 StGB).

Re: astonished at toilet at lausanne station...

I don't 'feel offended'- I believe that public toilets are for the public to do what is intended there- eg to go to the toilet in an emergency when out. Anyone should feel free to go in when they have to, without having to witness casual sexual encounters, hetero or homo. I do believe the vast majority of the public will agree with that.

Yes they do, which is why there is a law against it. The question is how do you stop it? Attendent? But then are you prepared to pay 5chf to use the toilet?

So you do feel offended, then.

There's nothing wrong with admitting that there's a line beyond which other people's behaviour offends you - as long as you accept that other people's lines might be in different places to yours.

OK, I am not offended at the act and never lived in Tunbridge Wells either. But I am offended in circumstances possibly forcing me to 'share' thank you- and I do not want to have to worry about my grandchildren or your children witnessing it either- and having to then 'explain', etc. End off- keep public places public and for what they are intended. Where is your line? Thanks Mark for the relevant law article, which is quite clear.

My line is quite a lot further along than yours, I suspect. I don't really care what other people do with their own bodies as long as they don't touch me or anyone I care about. I especially don't care in a building which is designated for the whipping out of willies and the emission of body fluids. Rather a public lavatory than a public park, surely?

I think that Swiss law has just the right balance here.
If someone feels offended (s)he can press charges but we don't need police officers wasting their time hanging out in plain clothes in public restrooms to act as decoys like in the US...
