Easter Weekend Plans?

Anyone have holiday plans for the Easter Weekend?

Since we are relatively new to Switzerland, we are thinking of taking advantage of being able to drive to somewhere either here in CH, or Southern Germany / France or perhaps Italy.

But not really sure if it's worthwhile? I'm guessing the traffic is a pain, and if we head to somewhere like Munich, will anything even be open?

So, what are your plans?

We're looking at somewhere to go too - outside of Switzerland so I'd be interested in any ideas too.

Re: Easter Weekend Plans?

The traffic will be an absolute pain, beginning on Thursday 2nd April, after midday and continuing until Tuesday morning 7th April.

Most of the citizens north of Munich and Stuttgart choose this holiday to visit their relatives in northern Italy and Austria. Expect hours spent in stopped traffic. The Gotthard tunnel and the German Autobahns are especially full up. There will be skiing but the access roads there will also be full up.

My tip is to buy a local newspaper and find out what is on offer locally, and enjoy the peace. Before Easter check out the nearby tourist offices for ideas.

Staying firmly put- for reasons stated above. What bout Burgundy- going against the flow of traffic. Not particularly warm, but beautiful and of course excellent wine.

Why don't you get the train to Lugano - the weather is usually warmer down there and you won't get stuck in traffic

Take a train out of Switzerland (but book your seats now). No crazy traffic and you get the cheap Euro. Munich, Milan, Paris, Strasbourg etc are all 3 - 4 hours away.

Re: Easter Weekend Plans?

One of our favorite Easter weekend trips was down to Liguria (Italian riviera) and then over to French Riviera. The weather is usually lovely, although not warm enough for swimming/beach but great for hiking, markets (the Ventimiglia market is absolutely fabulous), Monaco (aquarium, Monte Carlo, etc) and great dining. We stayed in a charming little town called Pigna.

I feel sorry for all those foreigners, paying loads of money - with such a poor exchange rate - just to come to Switzerland for Easter.

Driving to the UK and, hopefully, against most of the holiday traffic.

Re: Easter Weekend Plans?

To enjoy a party atmosphere at Easter, head somewhere Catholic. I'm heading to Madrid for the Thursday and Friday then on to Alicante for the rest of the weekend (and a bit longer).

I'm not religious at all, but I do like to see Catholics enjoying themselves

Re: Easter Weekend Plans?

We don't have any plan yet, and would like to ask for some recommendations. We would like to drive down to Italy or France, preferably not very far from the Swiss border. Anyone have an idea about nice places there worth to visit in a short trip during the Easter holiday?

I and a few of my fellow Luzerner musician friends are looking forward to attending the Lucerne Festival at Easter hearing, watching the debut of Greek star Teodor Currentzis with his ensemble Musica Aeterna.
