I have just read that Primark will be opening a store in Geneva soon. I'm not sure how soon is soon or how well it will work over here but may be useful for people looking for cheap clothes ( especially for kids).

I just wish it had been Marks and Spencer, I'm getting a tad cheesed off by my friends in Belgium getting all excited about the imminent opening of a new M&S store in Brussels.
Where did you read that? I googled without any results

This is what I saw and I googled too but couldn't find any more info either which is why I put a question mark in the title.
Rumour has it that it will be the old Vogele shop near C&A which has 4 floors.

Re: Primark coming to Switzerland?

The prices will be interesting to see.

I cant see them taking a 1 quid t shirt and putting it in a Geneva shop, at that venue.

I'll just get mine in the UK.

Excuse me, the White Company? Do you have at least 10,000 francs before you even step foot in that shop. Beautiful but over budget for normal people. And the stuff is crap, overpriced and crap. I prefer red.

And i know the old Vogele shop, they also sold good quality cheapish clothes and they are closing down. So Welcome Primark in Geneva!!

Canny Wait. How to teach your snobby Swiss friends to buy cheap clothes - book shall be out in about a month. Then i can go to the White Company.

Re: Primark coming to Switzerland?

Nah I wouldn't buy from them. Remember the slavery scandal- differenmt help notes written by workers- " forced to work exhausting hours" or ''sos''?
No thanks, I do not want people to be used as slaves to sew my clothes.
Of course, there are more brands that use slavery, not just Primark, so I avoid them.

Re: Primark coming to Switzerland?

It is quite tricky to know which of the High Street shops (and independent ones too) are not fuelling the sweatshop problem. Primark is an easy target as it is clear to almost everyone that its cheap pricing is only possible because the people at the bottom of the rung are paid peanuts (or less).

But there are lots of products which have a dubious origin or were manufactured in ways which would make us cry. Look no further than the shiny phone a lot of us hold in our hands!

Exactly, does anyone know the real truth of what they wear even if it did cost a fortune.

Re: Primark coming to Switzerland?

There's a lot of fake piety in this thread.

Given the scrutiny to which companies like Primark are subject, I'd be surprised if they were any worse than any other company.

Can any of the people criticising Primark in this thread be absolutely certain that their clothes weren't made in sweatshop conditions, and if so how?

Re: Primark coming to Switzerland?

And therein lies the problem. We all have to buy clothes and no one can be sure under what conditions they were made.

I have to get some stuff new. I never buy brands, I don't frequent one particular retail outlet more than others, so maybe once a year I go to either C&A or H&M under no illusion that they are saints in the industry. I've never shopped at Primark, one pound shops and for that matter, I've never been to Ikea.

The rest of the time I recycle. Which is why I look like a complete dag most of the time in my missmatched, outdated outfits.

Re: Primark coming to Switzerland?

If you want quality, long lasting garments, you need to buy brands made in sweatshops by child labour.

Adults just have too big hands to do the fine stitching, and it keeps the kids off the street corners, and from drinking hooch in the park.
